Maybe so, but try to find it online for sale....
Check pricerunner and you get four results of which only two claim to have them in stock, one a family run camera company with a basic web site and the other is on the Pricerunner Blacklist!
By comparison, search for Nikon 5600 and you get over 40 retailers stocking them.
Don't get me wrong I think Apple should do something as they have completed a contract, it's just I don't think they will be able to get hold of the stock anymore.0 -
My 5600 with the £35 cashback "goodwill gesture" has just been sent out me today. It's worth noting that they do put the cashback onto your card and not Apple account for a future purchase.
I'm a bit annoyed at myself for not demanding to get it at the same price as the 5200.
Oh well, i'll still be getting a good camera at a great price - which I wouldn't have got at all if it hadn't been for spotting this thread. :beer:0 -
Not sure whether this has been said before but in acknowledgement of order email was following:
Please be advised that until you have received your order confirmation, Apple reserves the right to decline your order and refund any payment we may have received from you. In the event that we decline your order, we will strive to contact you by e-mail or telephone or mail.
Now where it has really gone wrong for Apple is that they have confirmed many of the orders.
I don't suppose they are going to tell us the real reason for this total mess.
So I would suggest they know that they have got to sort it out. They will not want a load of county court summons sent to them. I pose the question could we buy a 5200 from another source and then ask them to pay the difference.
It appears to be in Apple's interest to sort it out by them supplying products at discounted prices which is what they are starting to do.

Absolutely brilliant posting Keith
Apple are trying to get out of this as lightly as possible with the minimum of compensation0 -

If you read their T&C's you'll see that they're not obliged to have to do anything if they can't fulfill orders due to supply problems and that's the same for any retailer. Which is understandable really.
If you have legal cover on your household insurance you can either make a claim (if they think you've got a case) or just get advice. I should imagine you'll only be able to get the latter.
My view is that they're protected by their T&C's and a goodwill gesture is quite welcome and more then i've had in the same situation elsewhere.0 -

Surely a confirmation email and money taken out of your bank account is a legally binding contract - I dont think Apple are being altruistic with their offer as I believe it is more beneficial to them than the consumer.
I will tell them that I will take legal action if they do not resolve this issue to my satisfaction and will also bill them also for the costs0 -

Best of luck to you, but what do you want them to do?
Personally I think they are covered T&C wise not to have to do anything. The only other thing that they could be legally obliged to do is give you an equivalent camera at a negotiated rate - which they are prepared to do.
At the end of the day, annoying as it is, the 5200 is no longer available. We can either mope about it or get an equivalent camera at a great price.
I've received countless apologies and am now getting a heavily specially reduced camera from them. That's good enough for me.0 -

If they have sent confirmation and taken money then they have entered into a contract. Thay cannot simply change their minds and decide not to supply goods, their "gesture of goodwill" is nothing of the sort, it is a legal requirement.
Not everyone has had a confirmation and money taken though so some gestures of goodwill are quite simply that.

Yesterday I got offered the 5600 for the same price as the 5200, (well actually it was mum after I got passed around 3 different customer services people and got no where). After accepting, it got dispatched last night and arrived this morning! They're going to credit the difference back to the credit this afternoon. Tried to post yesterday but the just didn't have the time with the server being slow, sorry. hope this helps and good luck to everyone else.0
