I only got a 2:1 on my business degree
true fact of business, if you won't buy, someone else will, fact of life!
If it isn't too personal may I ask which university gave you that 2.:1 ?"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

I'd liken it to running a market stall or car boot sale, sure first thing in the morning, those "crack of dawn" hagglers, I could turn down, safe in the knowledge I can sell the item later in the day. However by lunch time, certain items not being sold, your more likely to accept an offer, just to get rid. Ultimatley, you will still close the stall, with surplus items in your boot that NOBODY wants (ergo,...there are things you don't buy, which will not be bought by somebody else).
Not everything sells eventually, its bad business sense to assume they do, why on earth do you think a company has "Surplus Stock clearance" or "closing down sales" Why bother reducing the item if as far as your concerned, it will sell anyway??
Imagine bringing that up in a Sales review meeting at work, they'd hang you out to dry.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Errrr, part of the mystery shop is "were you approached within 5 minutes of entering the shop" so they HAVE to ask or risk getting a rubbish mystery shop, loosing out on bonus and getting a bollocking.
You are missing the point of my comment. Yes a good salesman should not leave a customer standing unattended for 5 minutes, but an experienced salesperson will not ask a question that will allow the customer to walk away without feeling rude. They will engage with customer, making them feel important and eventually wanting to buy; merely asking "Can I help you" does not achieve this.0 -

And I am a troll now cheers
The problem was Edna when you made such an absurd remark in an attempt to lambaste me for whatever reason. To back up your claim you clung to your academic credentials which you thought added weight to your ridiculous remark. You cannot blame some people for wanting to know where you got your degree, if they were teaching you that essentially customers are ten a penny and if one didn't buy a product then another would.
The current economic climate has proven that more than ever customers are pivotal to any business be it in consumer products, services such as banking or right down to the self employed plumber. The way you suggest is almost to treat your customers in contempt and that if they are unhappy then so what; someone else will walk through the door.
We are all feeling the pinch in one way or another and its not uncommon these days for a customer spending X amount of money to ask for free delivery, or free warranty or something else to make the purchase seem more valuable to them - in the same way it is not uncommon for a store to add little incentives to make a purchase seem more enticing than their competitor. Especially now that most stores have had to drive their prices as low as possible - they just have to look for alternatives.
When all is said and done if your maxim was true then Currys wouldn’t be being forced to cut costs and wouldn’t be spending what I imagine is millions of pounds each year on advertising.0 -
I agree with an earlier comment.
This is MSE and a fridge for approximately £700 or so isn't money saving.
Personally I would never go into either Curry's or Comet as I can't stand any shop where you get pounced on. Mobile phone shops are another one.
Congratulations sturll on filling the coffers of a big company...it goes against what we're here for. Excellent stuff
I thought we were here to share and learn ways of making our money work best for us. If I saw something I wanted at a price I felt was good value in Comet or whatever, then what are you saying I should go to a smaller shop that charged more?If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -

Sorry, seeing this quoted again reminded me how much it beeped me off.
The site is called "money saving expert"...not "never spending anything expert". The two things are quite different.
The MSE approach to buying something is to ensure you get the best deal you can. It *isn't* to just not buy the thing.
"I'm looking to buy a Porsche"
MSE answer: "try X dealership. They have a good offer on at the moment, plus they are really cheap for servicing"
Really stupid answer: "buy a metro instead...it's the MSE thing to do"0 -
Excellent post Idiophreak Perfectly put, just for one minor flaw.......I'd probably buy the Metro
