Did you want it to be delivered quickly? If you did Curry's at Birstall use a courier firm to deliver their products they are not officially Curry's employees hence the charge. I know you spent alot on the appliance but to expect free delivery just because of that is presumptuous to say the least. Even if the couriers were Curry's own the would still need to be paid for their work delivering the product as well as petrol and maintenance costs for the van/truck.

I bought a fridge freezer from there a couple of months ago for nearly £300, the original delivery cost was £40 but we managed to get them down to £20 which we found reasonable for such a large item (the couriers took our old appliance too) you didn't give the guy the option to reduce the delivery charge you wanted it waived completely which is probably why he said no. Still at least you got a good bargain next door but beware buying from that comet store I have had some real trouble from them in the past :)

The Curry's website offers free delivery on items over £199 so it seems somewhat strange that the shop didn't offer the same.

    Poor staff training ?

I agree with an earlier comment.

This is MSE and a fridge for approximately £700 or so isn't money saving.

Personally I would never go into either Curry's or Comet as I can't stand any shop where you get pounced on. Mobile phone shops are another one.

Congratulations sturll on filling the coffers of a big company...it goes against what we're here for. Excellent stuff

    Blimey, how rude
Its up to the OP how and where he spends his money, and I didnt realise it was a prerequisite of being a member on here that we had to ask permission before purchasing goods in certain shops??

I was looking around for the Ipod Touch. Argos dont have any left so I called in to Comet and they were happy to price match. Went into Curry's to see if they had any offers and was told, rudely, Argos don't have any in stock so won't price match! Nice attitude - wont be going there again!!
Comet are famous for amazing prices that they don't actually have any stock off (aka "bait and switch"). To quote a guy at work - "it's easy to undercut us if you have never have to make a sale"...

Was recently literally chased around a Currie's store by salesmen asking if they could help. A professional, experienced salesman would never ask this question as it allows the customer to say "No I am just looking".
Errrr, part of the mystery shop is "were you approached within 5 minutes of entering the shop" so they HAVE to ask or risk getting a rubbish mystery shop, loosing out on bonus and getting a bollocking.

@ the OP - I think your under the illusion the salesman actually cared at all about your flat freezer sale...

There was no need to walk out and be such a bloody drama queen because he would only give you the price you originally saw - the salesman is human too, y'know, and even if he'd wanted to he couldn't of actually given you free delivery (without the managers say-so - which he wouldn't of got on a flat sale).

EDIT - Sorry if I seem rude but it's people like you who make me hate my job, and seem to think that as they are spending so much at the store they are allowed to treat the employee like !!!!.

I find if your honest with customers and explain WHY you can't discount it, most of them understand. Seems to work for me the amount of tips I get pays a hell of a lot more than WEH.

Working at Currys but also being an avid moneysaver I see both points of view! I don't blame customers for asking for discount and if they're nice enough and the product has enough margin on it I'll often through in delivery so its always worth asking.

But I find the problem firstly occurs with customers not realising that selling products with no attachments etc often makes the store very little money, and also makes no difference to the income of the sales person and infact can ruin their figures. Hense there is no incentive to ruin your discount figures for a sale that is ruining your figures anyway......I wouldn't expect customers to understand this as its a stupid system.

Also despite other companys selling a product cheaper doesn't mean we are making more money than them. And the margins on products doesn't seem logical eitehr for example the other day a customer brought a £1000 television and a £100 electric heater, we made £20 profit on the tv and £50 profit on the heater. Also recently many products are sold at a loss e.g a £2500 tv I sold the other day lost us £100 so when they asked for discount the customer had no chance.

Since commission was scrapped I'm happy if a customer goes to comet and gets it cheaper as I'd rather see them get a better deal as a fellow moneysaver!!

Ohhh and if you want to buy from currys and you want discount (I think martin may have suggested this) haggle for the 5 year cover then phone up and cancel a few days later, or take the montly one and cancel if you'd rather.

    Sorry semi-rant over!
