It was 2 years in September, scrapping it has made a huuuuge difference in how eager SA's are for the sale.

Working at Currys but also being an avid moneysaver I see both points of view! I don't blame customers for asking for discount and if they're nice enough and the product has enough margin on it I'll often through in delivery so its always worth asking.
I must say that the TV and MSE has a lot to answer for haggling wise - either customers haggle badly "can you give me a deal on that" with no real incentive to offer them one (I.e. they won't buy anything extra), or customers that get offended when they have to pay ticket-price like everyone else

I find if your honest with customers and explain WHY you can't discount it, most of them understand. Seems to work for me the amount of tips I get pays a hell of a lot more than WEH.
Not all customers realise if they spend £1,000 on hardware without buying anything else then they are probably only making about £30 profit for the company, and so I can't just chuck any old free stuff in.

Personally i'm glad i've never had to work for sales as I refuse to lie to my customers to get a good sale...

@ the OP - I think your under the illusion the salesman actually cared at all about your flat freezer sale...

There was no need to walk out and be such a bloody drama queen because he would only give you the price you originally saw - the salesman is human too, y'know, and even if he'd wanted to he couldn't of actually given you free delivery (without the managers say-so - which he wouldn't of got on a flat sale).

EDIT - Sorry if I seem rude but it's people like you who make me hate my job, and seem to think that as they are spending so much at the store they are allowed to treat the employee like !!!!.

Actually yes i did expect the guy to care about the sale of my freezer. Isn't that supposed to be part and parcel of his job? To 'want' to sell something for the company? To 'want' to please the customer so they come back?

There was every need to walk out - since i walked out to go to Comet next door, where as already explained did i not only get the free delivery but i also got the fridge cheaper :D

But i can completely understand why people like me make you hate your job, after all you clearly dont care about a slae and would obviously much rather the person walks in machine like and listens to your bull **** story about how you have one of these at home, its the best on the market blah blah blah and then willingly bends over and pays every penny including the 5 year warranty.

Personally I would never go into either Curry's or Comet as I can't stand any shop where you get pounced on. Mobile phone shops are another one.

I was in Currys and Comets yesterday and didn't get pounced on at all. Nothing like mobile phone shops where they are literally trying to drag you in the shop from the pavement.

I was approached in Currys and Comet and asked if I wanted any help when I was looking at cookers & TVs but I didn't get approached when looking at laptops (which was the first item I looked at). I politely declined and was bothered again.

The other pouncers I hate, beside mobile phone people, are the foreign gentlemen in Debenhams selling either hand lotions or cushions. They are so in your face and patronising and difficult to avoid as they are by the escalators.

Hmmmm, i get the impression you clearly don't work in business or sales or even have the slightest inclination how it works.

I don't think you understand sales either tbh.

Currys really only sell stuff like Fridges to get extended warranties etc where they make their REAL money.

If your not buying a flat sale, theres a chance someone else will buy your stock with something more profitable in there...

Not true. There is not always another customer around the corner, especially at the moment. What are facts today are:
    • Fewer people are buying new cars
    • Fewer people are buying foreign holidays
    • Fewer people are making home improvements affecting both DIY stores and tradesmen
    • Fewer people are buying houses
    • Consumer spending is at a low (depending on what sources you read it's 2, 10 or 20 year low.
