I interpreted the £250 million figure as being actual money paid out so far - i.e. BACS payments made last week, presumably the earliest being Wednesday, so 3 days of payments coming to £250 million. I think the Mail is reporting it wrong with 10,000 emails all last week. I think it meant to say 10,000 PER DAY all last week. I could be wrong, but I know how unlucky I am and how unlikely that makes me to be in the first 5% of account holders to make a claim!

Yes I agree that the £250 million has to be BACs payments. We don't know the numbers who received emails but elected not to be paid now but don't you think that this is a very small proportion of the total £3.5 billion invested. At this rate how can nearly everyone receive compensation by the end of November as promised ?

I do not believe 10,000 emails a day are being sent out.

So, are they admitting that there may be some who have not been sent the 2nd email by the beginning of december? Or do they refer to those who have elected not to be paid straightaway?

I heard that they are paying their friends and relatives out first.

I really can't believe that they have only sent out 10,000 emails in one week, I mean surely the website can cope with a lot more hits than 1400 per day especially since many people report they do the transfer in a few mins when they get the email, after all the Icesave website coped well when people were trying to withdraw their funds en masse on the 6th Oct.

If this turns out to be true there will be a great deal of disappointed and angry people contacting the FSCS in 14 days time!

If we assume £250m was for 3 working days, and we have 10 working days left in November, continuing at that rate would mean just over £1bn paid out in November itself, so yes, it does seem to be quite different to "vast majority". Even at double that rate (say, for not everyone claiming quickly at first, or for the emails going out more slowly to start with) then that's still only just over £2bn by the end of November.

Nonsense, our kid works there and I still haven't received a penny. He's not too happy about this scurrilous accusation. Hope he's not too angry and decides to delay your payment. ;)

Has anyone come across any other articles to corroborate what MoS reported? I'm finding all this rather incredulous and not sure what to think any more
“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”
  • I think also, for me anyway, it's that terrible feeling of being "in limbo" until the email actually arrives and we can set the wheels in motion to get the money back into our accounts. Even if you try and do something else to occupy your mind, it's not long before you find yourself back at the PC checking your inbox to see if it's arrived yet

Like the feeling you get being at the gate in an airport to see announcement flight delayed by 30 minutes, which increases to 45 minutes, then an hour, even worse if you have a connecting flight, and not being able to control your situation and knowing if you miss that connection you're in for hassle in no-mans land
