  • A big hug for you, 2cats1kid.

Man from FSCS: could you make sure that the email lurking behind the PDP11 is dusted down and sent pronto? Thanks.

Ah, sad to say but PDP11 is no more, the 8" floppy disc drive devloped a CRC error and it had to be shipped back to Digital who past it onto Compaq and from there it was inherited by HP. HP did offer us a free printer cartridge in exchange but alas our teleprinter cannot handle such modern devices..

Now we have been alerted to the risk of lurking emails we will of cause be checking on a regular basis..
Must go ... I need to re-group the troups from the euphorier of finally activating the Nilrem account ...

    keep faith ....

Do you honestly think I was being serious. You're harder to read than the Rosetta Stone :D

Of course not, silly! But you have a wicked sense of humour.
  • I had a email at nearly midnight last night. As first one from FSCS came at that time I was convinced that this was the big one so early awaited.

In fact it was from an old Belgian friend of mine who lived in the States for years wishing me a Happy Thanksgiving . At the time I was pretty cheesed off at this missive as it was not The One and she had forgotten I was not American. I am thinking now that perhaps I ought to send a bunch of flowers .

Tried to phone them and listened to a looooong message and then sat on hold for ages. In the meantime I read a thread where several people have said that once you are in the paper system they won't let you out of it, so no point holding on the phone any longer.

I have just short of 11K in an ISA so it's not like I have a ton of money in there for them to find, but it's enough that it's driving me mad waiting for it.

I can only assume since it was funded with a transfer in, they reckon there isn't a linked account, although someone said (on this thread?) that on the form to open the ISA you had to give a linked account? Dunno. That's all I can think of. Think that is annoying me, is they must have known the people they were going to do by paper, so why did they wait till the whole world and his monkey had had a second email before letting me in to play? I am so far behind everyone else I'll get squit % on an ISA by the time I get my money back and heaven only knows how long the certificate will take after that.

Sorry I'm a downer on your party, but I'm mightily p!ssed off and shall drown my sorrows big style tonight.

That's a real shame for you, but don't be too downhearted I really don't think it will take them 6 weeks, that is probably a Max time they give to be on the safe side, they won't be that many to do this way, I do hope you are sorted soon. :o

Is it worth phoning Icesave customer helpline to ask if your ISA is linked to an account? I also transferred from another ISA and am sure I had to link it into a current account

It does sound like it is because you don't have a linked account. Unless they have got it wrong then it is the paper route I am afraid.

I don't think there will be many here who don't think they should have sent out the paper forms weeks ago, they must have known because they wouldn't have been able to identify everyone else who could use the electronic process. They seem to have shown a complete lack of empathy for people's emotions in this whole process. Crap job FSCS

I agree totally about the shambolic nature of the payout. Those people without a nominated account should have been notified early in November and been allowed to nominate one. Those with fixed bonds due to mature at a time far enough in the future for them to be likely to want to keep them in should have been contacted last. I think there were a large number of these, and basically the FSCS has kept the whole thing going for too long while they've been scrabbling around for our money.

I certainly am very grateful to have got my money back (with interest), but unless the powers that be actually read these forums I don't think they'll ever know how badly this whole thing has affected most people.
