I thought that as I was one of the first to receive the first e-mail I would have got the second by now but that's not the case. Maybe they are using a different method for the order in which the two were sent out but I think that may have been talked to death in other threads!

I'm feeling pretty cool about waiting for the second e-mail even though I need the dosh to buy a car as I have just opted out of the company car scheme at work. I become carless 12 December! I spent around 24 hours thinking my £15k had gone for good and since then I just felt very pleased that I will get my money back. I think the FSCS have done very well, particularly in keeping us informed. I know there are those that will not agree but all things considered I don't think they could have done any better than they have.

Did anyone else make themselves a little promise that they would squander some of the money they had in Icesave rather than re-investing the whole lot again? When I first heard Darling Alistair say we would get our money back I decided at that moment that I would take a grand of my savings and just do something totally wastefull. We are going to spend a few days eating our way around the Cotswolds just because we can ha ha.:rotfl:

I was one of those who thought they had transferred their savings in time on 3rd October but the nothing apppeared in my bank account.I could not go onto Icesave as it had triggered the closure. For the first time this week I am able to log on and see my savings back in my account-since they never transferred them in the first place- and I am now awaiting the 2nd email like so many of you.

OQL61, be honest with me. I'm taking you back to October 5th(ish) when Icesave went belly-up. Like me, you'll have done the reading to see where you stood.

If someone had offered you all your money back in full that you'd have invested by the end of November but with no extra interest, you'd have snapped their arm off for it wouldn't you?

I'll ask again - all of those who aren't happy, who'd rather have gone through the passport scheme? No takers so far.

Yes, I certainly would have gone for it, but then I wouldn't have missed out on the better fixed rate deals (actually I haven't because I took money out of ING and tied it up last month - but not everyone has had the cash to do that).

To be honest, I was absolutely delighted when I heard that compensation would begin early in November. I really did think Phew, that was a close one! But I guess now, partly encouraged by the misfortunes of others, I'm feeling miffed that it doesn't look like I'm going to get my compensation until the end of november while others who have been more fortunate have already been paid. That's just human nature.

I'm feeling rather sore about this whole business for two main reasons: firstly, I gave my instruction to withdraw 30k on friday 3rd october, before things went wrong, by BACS. I thought I'd escaped by the skin of my teeth. Unfortunately, the money was returned to my Icesave account a few days later. If I'd CHAPSd it it would probably have gone through. Secondly, I had 30K in a fixed rate account and could not withdraw it. Now, this would have been fine if it was due to mature in a few months time, or next year, or whenever, but it matured on october 16th. Now, I am not unhappy that other people with bonds yet to mature will receive interest in full, I just feel that all savers are not being treated fairly.

Now, I know that all this is personal and does not contribute to the forum in any way, but I think it is important that people should know some of the history behind the grievances.

I do try not to whinge, but as every day goes by without the 2nd email it just becomes more difficult to cope with the nagging thoughts that I could have got out of this mess and that some are suffering more than others through no fault of their own.

    Thanks for listening. ;)

And you have special knowledge ? In that case, perhaps you can let me know precisely when my e-mail will arrive; if not, keep schtum.

Yes i do have knowledge, mine has gone through to my bank today, that's why i'm here to say that the process does work.
The last part is a bit silly, of course know one knows when the emails come, it seems to be random, but it obviously WILL happen. What eveidence have you got to suggest it won't? I've given you mine. ;)

I wonder, if now their emails cant be sent out, because of a clampdown of spam........see....

I'm with you. I appreciate how much the PM and the Chancellor have done in coming to our rescue. My problem is that, it was not their wish for the process to drag on for as long as it has.
.... be fair, it's been no time at all. It's seemed a month of hell but it's been quick. Our officials spent the first week in Reykjavik, then there's the logistics of collating 200,000 names and marrying them up to 300,000 accounts. It's all finite. I can see no way it could possibly have been faster. I'm astonished that people are getting withdrawal instructions after only five weeks to be honest. Again though, I take the point, it's been a month of anxiety.
Our leaders I am sure had hoped for this money, which is tied up in some institution to have been released for us to use as we wished. I still wonder, what has happened to the money that was in Icesave. Money did exist.

.. only as a number on a balance sheet. The real entity had been swallowed up into the economy of the country of Iceland. If I owe you a tenner but I spend it, you can issue me with an instruction to withdraw your tenner, but it isn't there to give you.
I transferred out 1 day before Icesave went under. The money left my account. I was relieved that it had, when the news broke. I thogh said to myself, mine was enroute to my linked account. To my horfror, I found out two days later, that it was returned into my Icesave account!

....me too, got the confirmation email and everything. Then they realised that the bank couldn't handle the run on it so pulled the plug.
So, again, I ask, which organisation is holding it, how much more is there. There must be millions tied up. Who is reaping the benefits of that money, and what incentive is there for that body to release it quicker? It would seem like some body is collecting the interest, and not passing it on.

.... see the tenner analogy. It's disappeared, probably into the middle east. Iceland will have bought oil with it etc. Only the middle east and China have cash in their pockets, so the actual entity of the cash will be there.

..... seems to me you're firing bullets in the wrong direction. Your gripe is with Icesave, they pulled the plug on your transfer. The same happened to me, by the way.

Don't knock the FSCS though. They've taken what could and should have been a nightmare process and made it a simple one that's a lot shorter than the passport scheeme. Whether it takes 5 weeks or 8, it's a hell of a lot better than the alternative.

I never tried to remove my cash but I agree with you what they did was disgusting, as I understand it even people who used chaps on the Friday had their monies returned to Icesave, the point is that they did not crash until the Tuesday and they let people carry on removing their cash without saying a word but all the time they were blocking the transactions even as far back as the Friday before, IMHO that was 'crooked'!

Also people keep telling us that we were not robbed because Icesave crashed however Landsbanki who own it are still functioning in Iceland and their customers carry on as usual using what many people suspect is our money.

 I have only £3.5k, my Mum has £23k and my father has £35k in icesave - yes I know fools seldom differ and family members even more so.

The point being that none of us has received a 2nd email and the amounts vary from low to high (ish), just to put the "small claims to back of queue" conspiracy to bed.
