Can anyone tell me whether or not the samsung SM940MW has a HDMI socket thanks?
  • There isn't an HDMI Socket on this set but it's got a DVI socket, component sockets, 1 scart socket and it's a fantastic piece of equipment.

    Hope this helps.

    Hope this helps:
Component video is indeed High Definition, but in an analogue format.
DVi and HDMI are both High definition in a digital format.
If your DVD player outputs upscaled High Definition via HDMI, then this should work ok with your TV through it's DVi socket. You will need to ensure your DVd player is set up to output though this socket in your set-up menus.

It's generally considered that Component isn't as good because basically the digital signal is converted to analogue, and then after transmission back to digital at the LCD TV. However in practice, Component does give an excellent picture and so it's definitely worth connecting up this way until you get your HDMI issues sorted out.

Thanks for the advice, i think i will just get the component video cable because iv had enough of the HDMI to DVI business and had enough of unhelpful customer services lol.

I see your TV is the samsung SM940MW. What DVD player do you have?
There are very nice people at https://www.avforums.co.uk who will probably be able to help you out with the HDMI-DVi problem. You only have to resister (2 mins) and ask the question. If it's a common problem with your DVD player then just do a text search on the model number first and the solution may be there for you! HTH
