Does this backlight seepage happen in PC monitor mode as well? I would buying this primarily as a PC monitor with occasional TV use in the spare room.0

Hi Scott
Well the issue only affects me in the following circumstances, if the last thing I view is the TV and I turn off the set, and disconnect from the mains, or switch off at the mains. If however I watch TV and switch it back to PC Input, then turn off and disconnect at the mains, the TV picture is unaffected! Work that one out if you can.......

Hi Stevey1976, I don't propose to solve Samsung's issue but I am interested if the issue you have discovered is only an issue if you disconnect the LCD TV from the mains. If so and I always leave the LCD TV connected to the mains but switch off the screen every night, then that answers my question:
I will quite happily leave it connected to the mains - resolved.
This is my opinion and preference, you and others may disagree and prefer the safer option of unplugging the LCD TV from the mains altogether. That is fine and I agree completely for the reasons in doing so.
Of course, if I'm sadly deluded in my statement, then please do say. I'd hate for me and other like-minded souls to be misled.
Cheers

I'm not sure whether it is possible, but can TV be recorded to the PC hard drive? Perhaps there's a software program that allows this to happen? Anyone any ideas please?
Thanks

Not via this monitor. You would need a dedicated tuning card. http://www.hauppauge.com/ are the market leader in this kind of technology.0

Thanks for the info, hambrook.
I can see the advantage of having an LCD TV, such as the Samsung 940MW, for use as a PC monitor and standalone TV.
However, if I never have intensions to use it just as a TV, i.e. it would primarily be a PC monitor and occassionally watch TV, then would it be cheaper to invest in a standard LCD monitor and a TV card for my PC?0 -
Yes you could. Depends on the installation. With a dedicated tuner card (you can get freeview models) you could emulate some of the Sky+ functons with recording TV / pause etc. The one consideration is how much noise does your PC make. Most tower PCs with power supply fan, CPU cooler, hard drives can make enough noise to impede on TV viewing in quiet environments.
For us we bought this for use with our desktop PC with occasional TV use situated in a home office.0 -
Yes, my PC is quite noisy.
I've never seen a TV card in action, is the TV picture as good as that of an LCD TV? TV card recommendations for a Sky user, i.e. what is the best DVB-S TV Card(s)?
Cheers

No such thing as a Sky tuning card. The CAM (Common Access Model) has never been released. Sky Cards are uniquely matched to Sky STB. you can capture the dingal from a sky box using a TV card but you cant tune int.
Picture quality is as broadcast. Look up Satdudez Forums for more discussion on the topic, I am conscious this is moving off topic.0
