OK thanks JB. Mines going back.
  • Hi all,

I've got the SyncMaster 940MW after seeing it on here and its great although I've noticed a rather unusual quirk, and was wondering if it's a fault with my monitor or the same on everyones who has this! If you're willing to help please try the following:

    1. Press Menu and select 'Source List' and then 'TV'.

    2. Once you have a TV picture displayed press Menu again, press the down arrow once to select the 'Picture Menu' then select 'Mode' and choose 'Custom' and press Enter on your R/C. Press Down on your R/C to select custom and adjust picture settings as you see fit, and exit the menu.

    3. Turn off the monitor either by R/C or the switch on the right-hand side then disconnect the power supply from the mains, leaving it for a few seconds, say 15-20.

    4. Plug back in to the mains and turn on your monitor so that the TV should come on, do you get a really dark picture with sound, or is the picture just as you left it? On mine if I turn it off at the mains, which I like to do of a night it resets all the custom setting to 0 so you have a really dark picture, pitch black in some cases with just sound, however I've found also if you turn the setting back to PC then turn off and disconnect from the mains, it remembers the settings ok!

Any feedback on this greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Steve
  • Can anyone who has this monitor look in to the above for me please?
  • Stevey1976 you're not alone!

I've got the same problem it was okay for a couple of days then lost the settings after I made a change to the sharpness setting.

I've been testing it over the past couple of days and if you turn it off for a couple of hours it seems to keep the settings, but leave it over night and it resets everything back to zero. What's really odd is that it has kept the settings on the analogue stations and on the side AV input. Its just the EXT that i'm having problems with.

The lack of a decent manual on the TV functions really does not help. When it works the picture is very good considering the price. Looks like it may have to be returned though.

  • Hi Mark,

Thanks for your reply, if you try adjusting your Ext setting to how you want it and then changing the Input back to PC before turning off your monitor/tv does that stop it losing the settings?

  • The 940MW wipes the custom setting back to zero on whichever TV input is used last before switching it off. Which would explain why you're okay when you switch to PC before turning off.

If Ext was last used then it got reset to zero, but AV and Coax inputs were fine. If AV was last used then it gets reset but EXT and Coax were fine.

The thing that I've noticed is the frequency with which this occurs. Started out just overnight and any attempt to replicate during the day (by turning it off for 1-2 hours) did not give the same result - everything worked fine. Then yesterday it lost settings when turned off for just 2-3 minutes.

It went back to PC World today for a refund - they were very good, no problems.

    Hope this helps.

  • My unit also loses the custom settings, so it must be a design flaw. This doesn't actually bother me to much, but the backlight leakage does.

Does anyone have a unit without backlight leakage?

What do you mean by backlight leakage?

The common consensus on the avforums column for this model https://www.avforums.com , search under model name, is that they ALL have backlight leakage

Backlight leakage is a band of white on the top and bottom of the screen, noticeable on dark backgrounds

Is this only happening when you switch off at the mains? In other words, would this issue not occur if you left the mains plug switched on all the time, but just switched the LCD TV off?

    Cheers
