How does this monitor compare with a standalone lcd tv? The deal seems too good compared with lcd tv "bargins" with the only spec that falls short being the brightness of 300 cd/m2. I'm looking for a lcd to replace my tv in my bedroom, will this do the job? or is it really designed to be watched from a close distance?0

I've installed the drivers, but I'm not getting 1440 x 900 , I can only select 1400 x 1050 max which isn't widescreen, so I have to get the monitor to stretch this, which results in a less than clear picture. Any ideas?0 -
is there any similar deals anywhere for a 17"?0

Its good from a distance for tv usage. Nice colour, great sound, lots of settings you can play with. It does have that pixelated look of LCDs (I'm yet to see one that doesn't mind), but not bad from a distance.
Mine has quite a sensitive viewing angle, if I'm lower than the tv (ie in bed) the picture isn't half as good as if you're at the same angle as the tv.
There is also a reported problem with backlight white light seepage on the top and bottom of the screen posted here..

I would advise you only to be worried about this if you are planning on watching a lot of dark movies in an unlit room. For normal tv - news, gameshows etc its fine0 -

Get a completely black screen - and look for whiter top and bottom just around the frame top and bottom.
Or watch tv, on a really dark movie, again look at the top in particular, it is noticable
Obviously a completely black screen isn't a problem, but it is noticable on a darker than average movie.0 -
I've bought one of these, and on one of the instructions sheets it shows a plastic backplate that clips on and covers over all the wires. I cannot find this in the box.
Has anyone else bought one of these and got the backplate?0 -

Has anyone else bought one of these and got the backplate?Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0 -
Has anyone mounted one of these on the wall? If so whats your opinion of it? I've heard bad things about the viewing angle of this LCD over at the AVforums, so I'm thinking of returning mine to PCWorld before I open it.0

I'm conscious of saying it because there is nothing worse than having your purchases poopooed by people, but I bought one of these monitors from PC World as TV mainly but also as a monitor. I have to agree with the AVforums bunch, the viewing angle on this unit is very poor (also the screen is very shiny). Unless you are viewing perpendicular to the unit alot of the colour and brightness is lost (I am sure it would be a good monitor though). I'm not particularly fussy but mine went back as I could hardly see it when viewing from bed:)
Other points to note are that you can only have PIP when in monitor mode i.e. you can't have the PC taking 1/4 of the screen whilst watching TV (I know most peeps don't use this feature, but I do). Finally if you do regularly switch inputs it is a bit of a pain as the onscreen display takes a couple of seconds and there is no physical display (LEDs) to show what input you are on... you may be able to do this with the remote, but I never unpacked it to check... soz
On the plus side, it has good inputs, good res and response time. the remote looks quite nice (never used it) and it is quite light weight compared to others I have used.
Cheers,
