Hi all
Ive had to register as a newbie as I couldn't remember my login.
Home Bargains are selling 12 treat bags for 79p. These are rectangular cellophane bags which are perfect for pots of gold for those who don't have access to cellophane. Makes it easy to wrap up too!
Hope this helps0 -
I've been starting to buy things to make pots of gold since the end of last month.
I figured I'd use plain mugs so that the 'pot' can have a use afterwards as well. I'm planning on baking messages on them as well. I got two packs of 4 plain white Asda Smart Price mugs. I can't remember what they cost now, but it was very reasonable. I think it might have been £2 per pack maybe.
I've got some gold tissue paper, it's just a case of working out what the best way to wrap them might be! So far I've bought 2 packs of gold coins from Tesco, a pack of M&S chocolate eclairs and some WerthersI'm going to see how far that goes, then maybe buy some Ferrero Rochers if that doesn't quite do it. I haven't seen Ferrero Rochers reduced anywhere yet though.

Thanks for the tip Giggle
Waiting on a catalogue from the company who do the sleighs to arrive before I order, planning the pots of gold has been nice and quick! I know which sweets I want to put in them and roughly how much of each type I will buy and then it's just waiting for the Christmas scratchcards to be in the shops. I think that excluding the sleighs I will end up spending:
£3 ferrero rochers (going to snap them up on offer and this isn't the cheap I've seen a box of 16!)
£2 werthers originals
£2 chocolate coins
and maybe £1 gold wrapped toffees/fudge depending on how full they are looking!
scratch card wise - I'm hoping there is a Christmas one available at around £1 and I will maybe buy 10 - not sure if everyone is going to get one yet.
So that's £18 plus say £12 for the sleighs. Not too bad in my opinion as the sleighs will last and that's table gifts for 5 (usually spend £5ish each) plus token gifts for grandparents and little treat for bf's mum and dad and my managers token gift sorted! Averages out at £3 per person max!************************************

I'm a newbie, so hope you don't mind me posting (so long after the last comment too!)
As I recall, Lindt do a truffle-type chocolate wrapped in red, and Maltesers usually bring out their individual bunnies for Christmas too (and they are wrapped in red).
How about miniature pots of strawberry or raspberry jam?
And then, for younger folk, there are those Jelly Lips (always a little fun).
Tin foil will transform anything you use to sparkling silver.Just thought I would bump this thread up as I'm sure like me, people are starting to think of these. OH wants a different theme this year so going for silver and red. . Already have a book of 1st class red stamps from the RM surveys for mum and gran, and will aim to get 2 Johnnie Walker miniatures for dad and OH as think the label is red. Any other ideas on what we can put in for these colours will be gratefully received!0 -
I did these for the first time last year after reading all about them on MSE, and they went down a storm at the Christmas dinner table!:j
I used Lidl (empty) jam jars as they are a lovely square shape. I put gold tinsel in the bottom and put in gold choc coins, werthers, 'Gold' choc biscuit bar, scratch card, and some pretty gold tree ornaments.0 -
Hi everyone,
I am doing a pot of Gold this year but as a larger gift / hamper. I am going to add the usual scratch cards, gold coins etc but am a bit stuck for larger items. I am going to add some beers with 'gold' in the name as I know there are a few of these around. I also think there is an aftershave called 'gold' but other than that, I'm a bit stuck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

OMG these are an amazing idea!! I have just come up with my own little 'pot of gold' idea - will use wooden pallets (get them for free from site like freecycle), chop up to make smaller pallet boxes, line them with a nice fabric or something, fill with a bottle of beer/wine (for the adults), a scratch card, golden sweets/coins and a few other little bits. Maybe find a cheap golden reindeer or something. OK, so its not like the original pot of gold - which I think is great. But the 'box of gold(ish)' I think is a good idea
- could use potato sack type material to line it. Hmmmm....ideas, ideas.

I did something similar last Christmas. I gave the men small bottles of the Paco Rabanne 1 Million after shave (because it is gold in colour and shaped like a gold bar) and I gave the ladies a gold coloured Dove gift set, gold nail polish, gold eye shadow and gold lipstick. I wrapped each gift in gold wrapping paper, and stuck on some gold chocolate coins with double sided tape.
I bought the little boys gold coloured hot wheels cars and got the girls gold coloured bubble bath.
Avon have a number of products for both men and women with the word "gold".
And there is this one: http://www.krystaldirect.co.uk/Gold-Pre-Electric-50ml-p/golp03.htm
Yardley also do an after shave called Gold After Shave.
What about gold coloured candles.
Bells whiskey is gold coloured.
Then there is gold vodka: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Eristoff-Gold-Golden-Caramel-Flavoured/dp/B009H2UEVM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1380233571&sr=8-2&keywords=eristoff+goldSmiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...
