Just another peice from Lord Myners: 18/5/09

Lord Myners (Parliamentary Secretary, HM Treasury; Labour) | Hansard source I am not aware of any depositions made to the Government by Northern Rock, Dunfermline Building Society or the Presbyterian Mutual Society nor am I aware of the form such depositions would take.
With regard to Northern Rock, after taking all the wider considerations into account, the Government concluded that private sector alternatives did not protect the taxpayer's interest when compared with a period of temporary public ownership.
The Government and the Bank of England took action in respect of Dunfermline Building Society after the Financial Services Authority had ruled that it was no longer capable of trading as a going concern.
The affairs of Presbyterian Mutual Society (PMS) are a devolved matter for the Northern Ireland Executive; the society is now in administration.

DOES THIS MEAN THAT THE WESTMINISTER GOVERNMENT IS NOT HELPING US AND THAT IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF STORMONT???
• if anyone is in the ballymena area, david cameron is doing a questions and answers session tomorrow and anyone can attend

Surely by now everyone appreciates that lobbying MP's ( including David Cameron) is a total waste of time - we have been doing it for months and we are in exactly the same position we were in last November.

Can anyone honestly tell me that things are any better now as a result of all the pontificating, letter writing and e-mailing.

I felt from the outset that we were going to have to let things run their course before we can even think about possible actions.

Looking at the drop in the number of contributors to the site recently maybe I'm not on my own!!

Stuff for Assembly 2009 is starting to appear on PCI Website - at present there isn't a lot of detail, just stuff about the Assembly and a biopic, if that's the right word, of the Moderator designate.
Assembly Reports should appear soon on website so keep checking.
Go to PCI Website - click on "General Assembly"

Let's not give up here - it's easy to get despondent - but we need to "keep the faith" that things will come good in the end. That, of course, is true about many situations in life, although it's hard to stay positive sometimes. It disappoints me, as I have said before, that there is a moral issue in all of this for PCI which no one will face up to - perhaps we'll see that at the General Assembly although I feel that the "heirarchy" has lost the initiative with the people.

Bad news about Churches is in the air these days - PCI and now the Roman Catholic Church!! Who would want anything to do with the Church - that's why my faith is in Christ and not in any Church. A religious denomination will disappoint but Christ will NEVER disappoint.

• I think it has come to the point now that people don't really care about PCI anymore
I know for me I have totally lost heart and won't even be drawn back.

Please do not forget that those who have contributed to this forum have made a worthwhile contribution regarding this PMS debacle.
Concerned investors have benefited from it in that it provided some information about what was going on.
I am eagerly awaiting how the matter will be dealt with at the forthcoming General Assembly.

To be honest, I'll bet you it won't be. There will be a brief debate, some voices will be raised, and then they'll run out of time and move on to the next subject.

Unless of course some Assembly members with some backbone actually decide to do their duty.

Newsletter - Saturday 11th April 2009 - quote: "So far Gordon Brown has argued that the problems of the PMS are a devolved matter and nothing to do with UK Government."

Devolved government inevitably puts the spotlight back on DETI and Arlene Foster.

Arlene has been very very quiet in all of this for some time.
This is still rumbling on and not a word from the Minister.

Extract from one of my previous posts - just to remind you.

Most PMS victims are fed-up with people beating round the bush. Here are a few points:

Why did PMS notify PCI at least 2 weeks before everyone else if they were not linked to PMS? Was this good-hearted of PMS? No this was a tactical move so that PCI could remove themselves from the catastrophe. TACTICAL

That gave the allegedly unassociated PCI time to call in the legal teams and get the ‘story’ straight to tell the gullible people who invested their money in PCI? The problem is, that by washing their hands off it initially gave every other institution the opportunity to do exactly the same thing?

PCI effectively demonstrated a lack of morals to honest hardworking people whom, you will ,on average, find were devoted Presbyterians who feel like foolish Presbyterians now. Please don’t feel foolish – take heart from the fact that even accountants were deceived, so what chance did the average Joe Public have (I mean that respectfully)?

PMS savers need JUSTICE - is there justice in losing your life savings?
GET UP TO CHURCH HOUSE ON 2ND JUNE AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE COUNTED. PCI HAVE A CASE TO ANSWER.

We need a Joanna Lumley on our case and then maybe we would get something done.

That's what "good little Presbyterians" would do!
Say nothing, keep their heads down, and "let things run their course"

What were we supposed to do?

Say nothing while the Church slunk away?
Say nothing while the Directors spoke to us like imbeciles?
Do nothing to establish the links between PCI and PMS which the church did their best to hide?
Sit on our hands instead of lobbying politicians and telling them our stories - how are they supposed to know the human cost of this if we don't tell them?

All of the above would have suited the church and Directors very nicely thank you!

Thank goodness there are plenty of determined, angry and indomitable people out there, who have worked hard lobbying and ferreting out all the hidden information we have now.

And posted it here in order to support and inform their fellow savers.

Thanks GoodbyePCI for saying what I wanted to say but had not figured out how to say it.
