Rev. Sidlow McFarland's remark. "That oursocietynis one of the great successes of our church". Is this remark on a par with the 1859 Revival, which wasn't worth mentioning but would have reminded us that it was a Church organisation rather than a financial institution driven by money success.0

The following is posted on PCI website.
Business at the Assembly
Clerk of Assembly Rev. Dr. Donald Watts is on record as saying that the last six months have been among the most difficult in the recent history of the Presbyterian Church as it has dealt with events surrounding the Presbyterian Mutual Society.
The Church's response to the crisis at the PMS will be reported to the Assembly by the General Board and the Moderator's Advisory Committee on Tuesday afternoon (4.00pm). Members of Assembly will have the opportunity to debate how the Church has handled the matter but with no executive or administrative authority over the Society, its affairs are unlikely to be discussed in detail.
The General Board report continues on Wednesday morning (9.30am) with the Church and Society Committee giving its response to the report of the Consultative Group on the Past before the Church House Panel reports on progress on the redevelopment of the Fisherwick Place headquarters. (11.00am)...........
I can only assume that everything posible is being done to stiffle debate in a so called democratic Church.
Nine and a half thousand of our members are suffering and have been made to look like fools because the church hierarchy and their cohorts who served on PMS board failed to address the situation which arose in PMS.
Might be better for them to put on hold development at Church House and prepare for possible legal action that savers may have to take against them.0 -

Sorry SilentPCI but I am feeling tired tonight and I seem to have missed the point you were making in the above post; please explain it for me. :doh:0 -
Amazing really!
Devoting only one hour to perhaps the most serious crisis the PCI/General Assembly have ever faced.
Many of those affected by this really don't want to talk about the issue. Unbelievable - they are embarrassed and ashamed.
Wonder if all those people realise the connection between the Rural Settlement Trust - how and why and who approved it being formed and then the PMS - need to check your minutes from approximately 1945 ............. and then 1982 ..............
The links are there.
Savers that are affected need to ensure their Minister and Rep Elder attending the Assembly can speak on their behalf - otherwise this could just be brushed under the carpet!!!!
Why are the main players in this not directing from top and speaking to their people?
What other organisation, institution would operate like this in a crisis?0 -
For those of you looking at the General Assembly webpages, you might want to check out the titles of the "Presbyterians Talk" and the "Assembly Worship" sessions.
Oops...
Although not quite on the same level of insensitivity as this one...0 -

Deep breaths everyone.
PCI sees itself as a
“A healthy church
A Caring Community”
WITH A
“Passion for Christ
Compassion for people”
PCI is telling our youth that
“The Famine is over
Play your part in the Presbyterian Church”
I think that many PMS investors will have a big problem with these slogans.
PCI really need to face up to the elephant in their living room or a lot of the excellent work that they seek to do in Jesus’ name will be seriously undermined.0 -
When Jenny Geddes (1600-1660) did not like what was going on in the Church of Scotland she threw a stool at the head of the minister in St. Giles' Cathederal. Alledgedly that led to the Wars of the Three Kingdoms and the English Civil War.0

Presbyterians Talk: A Healthy Church, A Caring Community
An Assembly innovation of recent years is the Presbyterian Talk event on Tuesday night at 7.30pm. This year the focus is on health and the keynote speaker will be the Minister of Health, Mr. Michael McGimpsey.
After his address there will short responses on various issues including mental health, carers, closure of residential homes and hospital services.
Then the floor will be open for a panel discussion and question time when the audience will get their opportunity to put forward their views on what government should be doing and what role the church should be fulfilling in this most vital of areas.
Once again we are struck by the breathtaking hypocrisy of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland
Mental health how many PMS savers are on medication, and suffering mentally as a result of the PMS debacle
Carers How many carers are worried sick about how they will cope with their responsibilities as a result of the PMS debacle
Closure of residential homes how many PMS savers are struggling to pay nursing home fees and top up fees as a result of the PMS debacle
Hospital services How many PMS savers have had their health suffer through anxiety, depression and hopelessness as a result of the PMS debacle.
Please note that this most vital of areas is getting an invited speaker, a panel discussion and audience participation, with a view to discussing what the government should be doing.
The PMS crisis is getting a short slot at 4pm, where Members of Assembly will have the opportunity to debate how the Church has handled the matter but with no executive or administrative authority over the Society, its affairs are unlikely to be discussed in detail.
Try setting your own house in order PCI. You have a crisis right on your doorstep which you are busily trying to brush under the carpet, while you seek to pontificate about matters for the legislative assembly.
