I have just phoned British Gas to be put on the essential user tarrif ( DLA ,IB, IIB) and was told they had reached their quota but I could have cavity wall insulation then a £50 discount off my bill. Not much use when I live in a housing assc property who have told me they think it has been cavity wall insulated. There are the plugs in the outside wall but I have lived here 10 years and it hasnt been done during my stay, in my opinion it isnt working as I have my thermostat up to 30 and I am still cold ( old mid terraced 3 storey Victorian house) Please dont suggest moving house but is there any other avenue I can go for help? I am disabled and in receipt of the above benefits and 54 yrs old. Thanks

Hi JediMaster, I too am with Swalec and I receive their 20% off as I receive DLA. I do not know whether the Bill has to be in your name to receive this but you can call them and ask.

It is called energycareplus care tariff and their number is: 0800 622838 to speak to careline adviser. They are very helpful so give them a call.

Thanks for the reply. My Mum phoned Swalec yesterday (number listed on their site for Disabled people) just looked now on the site & it is the number you posted.

She was told that its "Means Tested" and if we pay 10% of income on Bills we can qualify (ie this Fuel Poverty we hear about). Hardly fair as it should be if your registed Disabled you can qualify.....

They are sending us a pack (or forms) to read & see if we can apply...
  • Can I just say THANK YOU to the OP, I am with Ebico and they confirmed that because my son receives DLA we can have the loft insulated for free who hoo :j (we have solid walls so cavity wall insulation is not possible). They are doing it on Tuesday!

Excellent news. NPower are giving £200 of credit to your prepay card in January 2009 for electricity, and another £200 for gas. Good news for those with prepay meters:beer:

Do you have to be an existing customer for the £200 credit, or could we sign up now and get the £200 in Jan?

I was informed today that BT give a large discount on line rental to pensioners, but have heard nothing about this.
    Does anybody have any info??.

There is a "light user" scheme but it never looked worth it to me.

Re my previous enquiry about BT, I phoned them and was told that if a person is on pension credit, they can go on what is called the basic tariff, which costs £13.20 per 3 months for line rental, which is quite a saving, this also includes £4.50 of calls to anywhere.
