i got a 20 per cent discount for 2 years with the above and also a free fridge!
OMG ... how did you manage the free fridge?? I'm with Southern Electric and planning to ring them today to see if I qualify for any discounts ... I could do with a new freezer so did you get a choice of free product?0 -
I was told yesterday that as well as discount for dual fuel and paying D/D you can get 15% off your bills if you are on benefit i.e. income support, tax credit, war pension. Age doesn't matter just the benefits you are on.0

Like others, I cannot find anything about a reduction by British Gas. Did the original poster, jumblejack, find out anything? There was apparently a reference in a carers paper.0

I've done a bit of searching about the BG essentials tarrif, it does appear that it has ended but they now have an Essentials Advance package. You can get free insulation and £50 off your next bill once your insulation has been installed.

British Gas also have a Home Energy Care reigister if you're elderly, disabled or chronically sick. You get priority in case of emergencies or power cuts, your meter moved if you need it and you could also get a free yearly gas safety check.

Thank you. We have had our insulation topped up recently, so no £50 discount!
We also pay for BG HomeCare which includes an annual check on our central; heating etc, system. So nothing there either!0 -
I rang Southern Electric today to be put on their plan and they're sending me a form out to fill in. The guy on the phone advised me however to fill the form in and then ring them again on the free phone number, and to go over the form with them on the phone, as he told me that they have a huge backlog - about six weeks - of receiving forms through the post they need to sort through. He told me doing it this way over the phone will be quicker and get me on the scheme quicker, if I'm eligable.
So don't post your form back to them once you've filled it in - instead ring them again and go through the form with the person on the other end to apply. It's a free phone number, so will cost nothing and will save you time waiting to apply.
Hope this helps someone.0
