I'm pretty sure it has the same effect on open fires.spinningsheep wrote: »Thats fine if you have a multifuel/woodburner stove, but what about if you have a standard open fire?~~~~~~~~~~~~Halifax, taking the Xtra since 1853:rolleyes:~~~~~~~~~~~~0 -

Rang my coal merchant to deliver again this week and coal still £12 for small but the £14 bag which I thought was the biggest apparently is only medium, there is also a large at £15 a bag! ummm, me thinks they've been going through the coal and looking for chunky bits for extra profit. The medium certainly isn't the top grade I remember and has lots of small bits in to fill up the bags with the occasional large bit thrown in!0

What type of coal are you buying? If smokeless, Multi Heat is usually the cheapest. Its a mix of everything smokeless that they can't normally sell because some people often want a specific type/brand.Rang my coal merchant to deliver again this week and coal still £12 for small but the £14 bag which I thought was the biggest apparently is only medium, there is also a large at £15 a bag! ummm, me thinks they've been going through the coal and looking for chunky bits for extra profit. A delivered open sack is usually 50kg but I get the feeling some merchants may deliver short, or top up with coal dust.
There should be stronger laws governing the coal industry. Please sign the petition:D~~~~~~~~~~~~Halifax, taking the Xtra since 1853:rolleyes:~~~~~~~~~~~~0 -
Coals2U currently doing Stoveheat Premium for £14.75 if you have ten 50kg sacks. This is a saving of £2.25 per sack on what I was paying in the winter.~~~~~~~~~~~~Halifax, taking the Xtra since 1853:rolleyes:~~~~~~~~~~~~0

I have a 50kg open sack of Blaze, 2 nets of kindling, and a 20kg bag of petcoke coming today and its £25.90.
CC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

That's a very good price. A neighbour has had a new roof and I've had all the old lath wood. I shall use that for my kindling:Tspinningsheep wrote: »I have a 50kg open sack of Blaze, 2 nets of kindling, and a 20kg bag of petcoke coming today and its £25.90.~~~~~~~~~~~~Halifax, taking the Xtra since 1853:rolleyes:~~~~~~~~~~~~0 -
Just had 5 bags of doubles delivered (the cheapest I can get) and it cost £57.50 We don't have gas or oil, seasoned logs are £40 per load delivered. I had no intentions of lighting the fire from May onwards but the weather has been so bad that, not only is the fire needing lit most days, I've also had to switch the storage heaters back on again! If fuel poverty equates to going over a tenth of your income on heating then I'm well poverty stricken! I've spent £698.50 this year so far just on electricity and heating and no signs of any improvement in the weather yet.
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

I know, its terrible. I feel quite poor this year because of the cost of fuel. I keep hoping the coal merchants will see sense before we all switch to gas, or other.Just had 5 bags of doubles delivered (the cheapest I can get) and it cost £57.50 We don't have gas or oil, seasoned logs are £40 per load delivered.
