about a week before christmas or it spoils the effect.
when i was tiny my mum would put them up on christmas eve after i went to bed which was awesome when i came down the stairs, took about an hour til i even noticed there were presents and the look of amazment on my face was priceless (we were well poor so wanted to spread out the time taken in the morning and take away the material aspect of presents which really has stuck in our family.)0 -
I usually put the decorations out over the second weekend of December, but other things like card making, card writing and present buying are all done once we hit December 1st!

oh, me too! i'm such a kid for the run-up to christmas! as soon as halloween's out the way, that's it for me! :j0 -
I am normally itching to put ours up the first week of Dec, but my OH makes me wait until about 2 weeks before.
Four things I will say:
Yes next Sat is TOO early, but as you say up to you
By the time Xmas comes you will be sick of the sight of twinkly lights
Your poor children will never think Christmas will EVER arrive, even a day in a child's life seems like a lifetime when waiting for something
Although I love decorations, when I finally took them down at the beginning of Jan, I was amazed how much bigger my flat looked LOL
P.S Expect some weird looks from your neighbours0 -

By the time Xmas comes you will be sick of the sight of twinkly lights. Did the same last year and LOVED it - didn't want to take them down! LOL
Your poor children will never think Christmas will EVER arrive, even a day in a child's life seems like a lifetime when waiting for something. Again, did it last year and they LOOOOOVED having the decs up for so long - except i had to replace the chocolate decorations 4 times as they kept getting eaten :rotfl:

P.S Expect some weird looks from your neighbours. We don't have any. we live in the middle of nowhere in a big field! :rotfl: maybe that's why i can allow myself to be a little eccentric:rotfl: but then again i wouldn't care what they thought in the first place even if i did have any!
answers as above:beer:

Crikey that's a bit early for me.
Well last year was the first in maybe 4/5 years I put any up and that was just a little tree and some cards. I'm making more of an effort this year.
I think part of the reason is that I can't keep my mitts off the Xmas music at other times in the year and maybe that ruins the thought a bit.
I am pleased to say that even though I've bought more CDs of a festive nature I haven't listened to any Xmas songs this year!! :T
However, I have to admit to having watched some crimbo films, including Home Alone back in September time. And some cheesy ones that I got in a box set last weekend and the weekend before. I bought Meet Me in St Louis recently (not stricly a Xmas film but it is very festive) and tried to watch it on Saturday but the DVDseems to be a dud. Oh and I've also watched Charlie Brown Xmas last month.I will try my best to not put A Christmas Carol on before December.
