I've got 2 dilemmas.
1. My 1-year fixed rate icesave account was due to mature next April. I'm thinking of taking the option to receive compensation on maturity, with the interest intact. Is this a good idea? I can't see anywhere else I'd get 6.7% on my savings. Surely it's risk-free. your thoughts?
2. They've mucked up the interest calculation on my 6-month fixed rate account, due to a !!!!-up by icesave at the opening of my account. This means I've lost 15 days interest. I rang the helpline today and the man said I do have a case and I could write to the FSCS asking them to review it. BUT my concern is that it may take so much time that I would do better to cut my losses and accept the incorrect but lower figure. It amounts to about £37 difference and although it sticks in my throat to accept the mistake, I suppose it makes sense to take the money now rather than wait for them to sort it out. And there's no guarantee that they will pay the full amount in any case. What do you think?
PS. where are people putting their money now, if you don't mind locking it away for a better rate?
1)If you intend to continue saving the proceeds, April could be tricky with good fixes gone so you might consider cash now and grab a fix for the longer term (herinafter called 'cash & grab' ). But it's just my view... & there may well be still decent rates about in April...
I'm in the same boat with a few fixes maturing Feb - what I've done is open a Halifax Guaranteed Saver Reserve which allows investments throughout the term at 6.0% fix as long as you pay £1000 pm into your Halifax current a/c (but you can take it straight out again). Then when my bonds mature, I can get them in there if nowt else around & assured of 6% til November 09. ... unless anyone tells me otherwise?
2) If you have to wait for the written process 'cos your disputing the value, and it takes 6 weeks (although could be quicker) you'll lose more interest IMHO - not fair I know but prob best to take money electronically ... and still argue the toss. I know you have to sign away your rights to future claims but I'm a pragmatist - they may tell you 'go away', but maybe not....0 -
When you opt to keep a fixed rate A/C the amount quoted will not be correct anyway will it? Back interest has to be added plus compound interest.0

I have not received my email yet. I suppose at least I have only 2 more weeks to wait max......0

I've also received my 2nd e-mail today at 16.41. Thanks to everyone who has kept us informed of what is happening.0

I received my second email also but now have a question.
When i first setup my account i opened a Cash ISa and as it was taking so long at the same time i also applied for a 6 month saver and normal account. Therefore i was provided 2 user names and passwords.
I have got the claim for my 6 month saver and Easy saving account however i was unable to action payment for my cash isa.
Has anyone got the same issue as me and did you receive another email when that account is ready to claim.
Thanks in advance if you can help.0 -

I got my 2nd email on 18th, went into my account and had a problem with my password, I thought I would have a real problem calling Icesave but no it was really quick and efficient, if anything better than they were when they were up and running. Within half an hour I had my replacement password email and I went in and did the transfer back to my current account. The money landed in my account just after midnight last night... I can't fault it at all.
I just want to say thanks to the sensible people on this site who have made it possible to get the money back, if anyone wants to check I never doubted I would get it back but I thought it would be a few months before I got it and I am donating some to a local hospice as a gesture of thanks....
I hope all the people who blamed Martin have started threads apologising to him and thanking him for fighting our corner, bet they haven't though....0
