Do you honestly think that "hundreds of thousands of customers" are at this min tryingg to log on to click the button? there are only about 200,000 domestic customers in total anyway.

Have you not considered that the FSCS realised that if they placed a button marked Initiate on the site a few people would be bound to click it either by accident or on purpose? If it was critical that people do not click the button they I imagine they would only have it appear after sending out an individual's email.

Ahhh yes exactly, the "Health and Safety rules" apply, remove jetison pin before flight etc. Safety rules like that? Which are actually meaningfull?

After all anyone clicking that link at the wrong time will cause the end of the universe as we know it, first there will be a plague to wipe out mankind and then after the sun will explode before a black hole swallows the entire universe.

The problem for a few of us, in seriousness is we didnt get the first email so are not confident we will get the second. I can't see why people are getting so uptight about a link which all will do will say "come back when you have the second email".

There are more important things to worry about, like where did my first email go? :j

There is a potentially valid reason to click before receipt of the second e-mail. Based upon the number of the first e-mails that went "missing" a successful click could allow someone to process the repayment after the message has been sent but before receipt.

I don't think you should keep calling people idiots, IMHO they are pioneers, God if we all followed every rule we would hardly do anything!

I am all for following rules when it is not safe to do otherwise or if ignoring rules might affect others but in this case people are just making a mountain out of a molehill!

Probably. Mr idiot, because if they didnt get the first , they are unlikely to get the 2nd, therefore what else are they supposed to do but check when they CAN initiate. Its not rocket science , just the only other option open to them!!:p
