Is there a geographic version of this number, e.g. a non-0844 number, so that I can use it from Skype?
I don't have a home phone, just a mobile and Skype at home. Skype charges 20p to all mobiles. If I dial 0844 they charge me 10p. Would be great to see the 'real' number the 0844 connects to, so I can pay just 1p through Skype instead.
I tried https://www.saynoto0870.com but it's not on there, yet. I have however used that site with great success to get almost all my commercial calls on Skype down to 1p.

I use Telewest Broadband who supply my digital TV and broadband internet via cable as opposed to the telephone wire. What yanks would call 'Cable TV', the opposite of ADSL Internet.
I save £100s paying line rental on the phone line, and just have a Skype 020 number for people to call me on, which costs me around £18 a year. Outgoing calls are free to my Skype friends, and around 1p to anyone else in the world, with a few exceptions. Thanks & good fortunes!0 -

These 0844 numbers are a legitimate way of raising revenue for delivering the cheap call .How would the supplier make any money? if the geographical numbers were available.
Have you ever thought about getting a free O2 Payg online sim. If you elect for 100 inclusive x-net minutes. You can make calls to 0844/0845/0870 and 07744 numbers out of your inclusive minutes and still keep the £10 top up to use as well.( They charge 10p evenings, and 5p weekends to call 0844/0845/0870 numbers when you have run out of inclusive minutes.)PF.0 -
Message DOES say 'the STAR button' but I think that
either * or # can be used to indicate the end of the number.0 -
It worked for me the first 5 or 6 times. Now it is a hit and miss affair. I waited for 2 1/2 minutes to get connected quite a few times and when it doesn't connect after that length of time I hang up and use 18185 instead.0

I've just had another attempt at calling a mobile using this supplier. Once again I was not connected after a couple of minutes and gave up. Sorry Martin, but I cannot recommend them - my advice, stick to 18185.0 -
WASTE of time , effort & money [dont forget about min. charges!)
There's absolutely NO WAY any company can support calls to mobiles at 1p even if the compression &/or carrier used is total crap...
This has probably been an enormous loss-leader thats cost them a fortune due to this brilliant website and us canny MSE'ers...
BUT its time to say goodye to them now...0
