Welcome to the Board. Ignore all the info about the 0845 number as they are not using one at the moment.
When you dial the number 0844 721 2525 from a BT landline (As soon as you hit that message you start paying BT) you will be asked to enter the mobile no in full intl format(dont forget to put # at end of number). If the person you are calling doesnt answer,is unobtainable,or you hit voicemail, you will be charged a min call charge of approx 5p even though the call may last say 60 seconds.
Even if you speak for say 3 minutes you will be charged 5p.However after 5 minutes things even out, so a 10 minute call would cost you only 10p.PF.0 -
Seem to be TWO threads about this same great value topic - it was in GRABBIT WHILE YOU CAN as clearly a time limited loss leader, so repeating a post I made in the other thread to help people:
GREAT TIP! Tried it and great line quality to a T-Mobile # this afternoon!
Just a couple of points to help people:
1) INTERNATIONAL format number
2) Is it REALLY 1p/minute with YOUR call carrier ?
1) INTERNATIONAL FORMAT
Cleverates is one of those discount providers specialising in international calls
You first CALL the 0844 721 2525 number
and once answered (you get confirmation that 1p/minute)
you THEN dial the UK Mobile number 07.... number in INTERNATIONAL format
ie you then press: 00 44 7.... (press # at end of number to speed things)
2) 1p/MINUTE ?
I have checked the Dec 2005 BT price list that 0844 721 ... is band g8 and is indeed 1p/min including VAT 24hrs-7days/week. With of course a minimum call charge with BT of 5p/call so you can natter for upto 5 minutes for same price, before it goes to 1p/minute marginal extra charge.
Other providers may NOT be so cheap! eg OneTel typically apply a 10% markup to that standard BT rates for non-geographical numbers although have only a 4.8p minimum call cost. (Though can't tell from their website as 0844 721... numbers are not in their price list.)
So to use BT dial: 1280 0844 721 2525
Not only are you guaranteed 1p/minute but it will then also count as call for those on BT Privacy getting CLI free (if they make SOME calls via BT).
No idea when this offer will expire but I guess the system will just say "cannot dial that number" once you enter your 00 44 7.... # number0 -

Onetel are the only landline call providers who mark up calls to 0844 numbers, every other network charges BT rates.
You dont have to use 1280 if you are dialling from BT of course. Also if you are dialling from a cable line they will only charge 1p a minute, but add on proper connection charge of 5 or 6p depending on supplier.
The offer ends in the New year see this thread. When the offer ends their will be an announcement on line, telling you the new more expensive number to ringPF.0 -
if u have a 1xxx supplier or are on CPS with a carrier who does NOT have any minimum charges like swiftnet on 0800 6191 999 then u will NOT be charged a 5p minimum but will be charged by that supplier [not BT] for however long you are actually on-line0

So what does Onetel charge for the access code phone number then ?
Reason I ask is because this table doesnt look very promising
http://www.onetel.co.uk/index.php?node=landline-call-rates-nongeo&rates-id=8447&x=6&y=9
I also have a related query regarding using the 1280 override here
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1281840 -
What will happen when the offer runs out? WIll people be charged more, or will that override number just stop working?
IE can they put the price up, without us knowing?
scif i had known then what i know now0 -

OneTel charge 10% more to call 0844 numbers eg: 1.10p instead of 1p ,2.20 instead of 2p and so on.0 -

How do you know this for certain ?
If you look at the table I linked to previously you will see that the numbers listed are charged at up to 5p per minute - those numbers where the closest ones I could find to the cleverates access code which wasnt listed by onetel as far as I could see0 -
OneTel havent got round to adding 0844721 to their list of numbers yet.But its definitely a 1p no as confirmed by BT site,so they will charge 1.1 as they do with 0844400 and 0844444 etc etc .These numbers go all over the place, because they are close to another tariff means nothing.0
