    I mentioned this to my parents a couple of days ago as they receive some kind of benefit because my mum looks after my nan in their house. I told them to apply for it and they more or less told me that BG don't give away money just like that and there must be a catch. So they are not applying for it. Oh well, their loss :confused:

    I rang yesterday to try for the £30 rebate and spoke to one of those know it all guys{yawn} who said I,m too late for this winter and will have to wait til march 7th to claim for next winter,and some more blah blah blah.So I just put the phone down on him and rang again,and a nice lady said she would put me down for the £30 and register me for next winter.The moral of this story is if at first you don,t suceed...(p.s.his name was Steve by the way.so dont waste your time with him}

    Yes FG, I also rang a few different BG reps, but got the same reply....No!

    Well done with your perseverence!
  • You lucky peeps-actually getting through to the Gas Board! Have been trying all day.There was no option 1 to press(Winter Fuel Rebate),just an automated voice,so frustrating.Hadn't even heard of this rebate until I joined the site and certainly didn't get an application form with my bill.

    Took the above advice and immediately phoned Atlantic Electric & Gas and YES they too do a cash rebate. The girl told me as she wasn't trained to deal with it as its so new someone would be getting back to me in the next few days but I definately qualified!!Yippee

    Bad news... so not so much YIPPEE as I assumed. I spoke again with Atlantic Electric & Gas again today and they informed me that certain parts of the Working Lunch programme were totally incorrect leading to lots of customer confusion.

    Atlantic's policy is to reduce your tariff by 20% with no standing charge if you even qualify as a vulnerable customer but ONLY if you are currently spending at least 20% of your monthly income towards utilities such as gas & electric.

    In my case it came out to less than 10%, meaning I would in fact have to be spending about twice what I am presently spending only then would I manage to qualify for their piddly 20% off tariff. Oh well at least British Gas don't have that stringent rule towards my electricity rebate.....oh yeah and Atlantic are sending me 4 energy saving lightbulbs for my trouble....hooray:-(

    I get really annoyed with the exclusions regarding grants and rebates.

    If you are on incapacity benefit, none of the above handouts apply, yet you are unable to have an income that comes anywhere near the thresholds applied to other benefit claimants. To rub in salt, many benefits on the list are given to those who already receive other benefits on the list too. Incapacity benefit excludes you from them all!

    Fran and Jenny,am I missing something here, besides the trickle down money, or is there an injustice being perpetrated in the name of politics.
    same situation here - it's not fair!!!
