Ahh.. but for savers the 'spend per day' potential is surely less important than the longer term goal?

in the interests of balance, it could be argued that most savers might be more likely to see this in terms of around £20 per month, or £250 per year :)

Well said, for the sake of a few hours net surfing and filling out forms, £250 per year sounds like a good return to me. Even if it took you 2 days to sort out thats £125 per day, on an 8 hour day that gives a net hourly rate of £15.63, well I would work for that hourly rate, wouldn't you?

Still, glad I did my rate chasing 1-4 months ago, Halifax guaranteed saver with bonus was up to 7.25%, linked with the 10% regular saver pushed that up to 12%. ISAs on min 6% fixed.

Savings rates are going to be awful over the forseeable future. Still it fits with the gov. plan. Nobody will save, they will all spend and thus stimulate the economy into growth again. Well at least that is the plan.

Birmingham Midshires still have a one year fixed at 6.6% available. apply online and they will hold the rate.

I received the form today. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to cash cheque ? I need to transfer from savings to current a/c and don't want to do it too early.

I am coming out of savings. With rates likely to plummet through to next year I have now met with my IFA and going for a 5 - 10 yr investment plan for growth of my capital. Its going to be a while again b4 we see rates of 7% on savings accounts.

Can you make subsequent deposits to this account after opening or is it restricted to initial deposit only?

Yes, but only until they withdraw the issue.

Fingers crossed it won't close before we get our Icesave moneyback then! Already had YBS close on me

I've just completed the application so according to their blurb they should honour the rate and open the account for me but what I'm wondering is, should we be fortunate enough to receive our money next week, can I send them a cheque for a larger amount than I stated I would be depositing on the application form?

Yes, I'm pretty sure you can go right upto £10M, as long as the issue is still open.

I would think you can as application form does not have the amount filled in, only the applicant details have been pre-filled.

    Don't worry.

There soon won't be any good rates to chase ;)

    Then we can all relax.
