I'm lucky I spotted this a couple of days ago http://www.halifax.co.uk/savings/guaranteedsaverreward.asp as I already have a qualifying account with Halifax I was able to open it instantly. The site is still saying it's available until 1 Dec. Seems good if you don't make more than 4 withdrawals in a year

Yer, I've opened this one tonight too (have a current account with them). Fixed and if you need the money can you still withdraw. When you log in does it say 'Halifax Guaranteed saver' without the rewards bit. Mine does. HOpe I've opened the correct account.

Am also thinking of opening another 7% and putting a small deposit in there. But like others, TBH I've had enough! I've managed to get some good RS (7.75 and 10%) this year and fixed rates. Also, I haven't much to spare at the mo - its all been fixed!

Mine says that as well with interest rate at 4.5% However if you read the info on Guaranteed saver it does says this

Great News - If you open and fund a new Halifax Guaranteed Saver account before 1 December 2008 and have a qualifying current account funded with £1,000 per month, your account will automatically be upgraded to a Halifax Guaranteed Saver Reward, where a higher rate of interest will apply until you make more than 4 withdrawals.;)

I'm with you on that one, Lynt. My husband died 4 months ago, probate came through recently. By the time the solicitor gets me any money the interest rates will be b***er all, and me on only half his pension. If he wasn't already dead, I'd kill him. Bad timing or what???

Wish I'd put more in the Icesave FT now!!!!!!

Anybody else out there feeling stressed trying to get a good rate :undecided

    Yup! :o

I feel as though I'm going into complete mental meltdown and have made some stupid and costly mistakes these last few days due to all the stress (and actually ended up with bank charges on an unauthorised OD for the first time ever as I completely forgot about a new DD due out this week :( )

Got paperwork for several accounts sat on my desk waiting to be posted and after today's interest rate cut I've checked the accounts online to find they've vanished

    I give up!!!!! :wall:

I think I'm giving up . I cant find anywhere where I can open an account tonight and fund it instantly. If there are any accounts still offering a good rate tomorrow I will retry.
Coventry BS Poppy Fixed rate bond deal is reasonable 6.25% (open now, send money later), also Birmingham Midshires (open now send cheque later). The Poppy one is interesting as you can add to it whilst the bond remains open for new customers. If you have money in the NWide, they still have good bond rates of 6.5% available.

Totally understand everyones exhaustion - I am shattered too after a frantic afternoon searching around.

If you've actually registered an interest in order to get this paper work, you may find they will honour the rate that was in force when you applied.

Perhaps a couple of phone calls first thing in the morning could clarify the situation.

Yes Birmingham Midshires assured me that was the case with them yesterday even if the bond disappeared overnight as i applied whilst it was there - mind you their rate is still there this morning :)

I opened the fixed rate one with AA when it was 7.1%,but now even this looks attractive.Going to scrape together any money left in instant accounts to tie up,rates will be dropping like a stone very soon,i bet.

How on earth do they think dropping by 1.5% is going to help those already struggling to manage on their income who rely on the interest,or who are trying to build up a pension.?

I am very sorry for your loss. But what you just posted really shocked me. Think about what you wrote.

    I hope you find peace.
