Hi all, back in november 2006 i paid 1100 for a lg plasma and got empire directs free5 year warranty. around october 2007 it started to screw up showing the odd red pixes dotted about hte place randomly , it was only noticable in dark scenes. I tried empire direct at the time , who told me an engineer would come, he didnt. 2 weeks later i rang again, and was promised someone would call me back, they didnt. Anyway, it got to xmas and i just thought id put up with it as it wasnt oo noticable, but it graduly got worse . Tried again in jan-febish and eventually then sent an engineer, he came had a quick looked at the tv and decided he couldnt see anything wrong with it. He then told me that the only options i had were to let them take it away, wouldbe for 4 weeks and no guarantee they could fix it. His advise was to just "put up with it" as it still had plenty of time left in the 5 year guarantee if it got worse. We ended up putting up with it, as to be without a tv for 4 weeks (which ive heard turns into 8 weeks) is a joke when youve paid that kind of money.
Im at the stage now where putting up wth it is no longer an optin, the red dots are now showing up more frequently, in bigger amounts and are even visable in lught scenes. So much so that me and my family cant enjoy a film anymor ebecause your drawn to the dots flickering away.
Anyone know what my options are? What sickens me is i think 1100 is alot for a tv for it to break within 1-2 years.
Ive searched on forums and the like for this issue, which seems to be a commmon thing with this lg plasma and other makes. And there doesnt seem to be a definitive fix for it, pretyt mucy everyone who has had it "repaired" has had it back with different replacement parts and repairs, its with no change, or for it to be working only for the problem to resurface a few weeks earlier. Its like no one actually has a real idea why this happens so they just fob you off with a "weve replaced xx".
Can anyone help? Im writing a letter of complaint to empire at the moment.

No, i would love it repaired, but id like a temporary replacement as i dont want to be without a tv for 4 weeks or more realisticly by other repairs 8 weeks. And the fact that it looks like repair doesnt seem to work is a problem.Waddle you do eh?0

Go on freecycle, get a TV, send yours off for repair.
You can still watch TV whilst yours is fixed, if there is a problem with the repair then at least you have a TV.0 -
Gibberish. Get them to give you a loan TV or a replacement. You are entitled to it.0

Cheers guys, im sending the letter off tomorrow. I just feel a bit of an idiot how ive let them fob me off in the past despite having had a 5 year guarantee. I jsut want to put my foot through it whenever i watch it now. What sickens me is the fact that the tv is probably worth less than half what i paid for it under 2 years ago, but that i can live with.Waddle you do eh?0

Well you learn something new every day, can you tell me what piece of UK legislation requires the supplier to provide a loan TV or replacement whilst the unit is repaired?
General principle of contract law: you would be entitled to be in the position you would have been in had the contract been performed correctly.
S.48B(2) Sale of Goods Act 1979.
(2)If the buyer requires the seller to repair or replace the goods, the seller must—
(a)repair or, as the case may be, replace the goods within a reasonable time but without causing significant inconvenience to the buyer;
(b)bear any necessary costs incurred in doing so (including in particular the cost of any labour, materials or postage).0 -

having paid 1100 for a tv i wouldn't want to be without it for four weeks and think that tozer has a point in it being unreasonable to expect you to, pursue that line see if it gets you anywhere GL.click here to achieve nothing!0
