Was it not yourself Neil, that suggested everybody start a new thread for every problem. ? Would this not lead to the site getting full of threads with perhaps two or three messages on them ?

Surely an easier way would be if somebody wants to respond to help someone else, quote the original message (at least the relevant part) so we can follow it through.

    Thanks for the input.

Yes I have said so but others have too and I'm not sure I was the first.

Hard to put an average on posts per case but it is way more than three! Challenging a Council issued PCN takes somewhere between 2 weeks and 5 months but typically, maybe, about 2 1/2 months with various stages to be addressed.

It would be a lot of extra work for both appellants and those assisting to read back for the latest news and then a considerable chance they may find the wrong one.

The formula suggested is based on what is VERY successful elsewhere.

One of the most relevant reasons is that appeals run to specific Statutory timescales and it is very important to keep track of them. Where there are several (and it could become 'many' on here) then that would be virtually impossible.
On that note - an example (I'll stick to a Council example). Where someone has been penalised for a bus lane contravention in exactly the same location as an existing appellant - they may think it relevant to post in the same place (plenty of those LOL). Unfortunately either may then lose out if someone trying to assist read, by chance, the wrong set of images of documents and dates were misunderstood.
In such a circumstance I'd agree that the two appellants should exchange thoughts and info but should maintain separate case threads so that they may be followed easily.

All of this is dependent on there being a separate forum as I have said because the motoring forum is too busy to accommodate this. As I also said, unless we get a couple of decent test cases without some of the inappropriate interruption there has been so far - don't expect the site owners to provide the facility.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you for your explanation. It now makes more sense !

One outstanding query; exactly where do people start their threads- from the Motoring & Public Transport heading ?
Thank you for reading this message.

It can make more sense if you visit the most successful forum and see how it works! http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?act=idx

On here - good question. At the moment the answer appears to be yes M&PT as 'new thread'. Ideally it will need to be separated.

Your question is very relevant because one of the occasional issues on other forums is that appellants don't understand that when updating latest news they need to do so on their original thread. With the potential for so many interim threads as things are at the moment this may be difficult.

On PPP this is dealt with quite swiftly by the moderators who will amalgamate and give a mild slap. On CAG, where moderation is crap IMO they don't bother. The result is that you look at a case and don't get the whole story. I understand that this can be helped by 'bookmarking' threads but might depend on the board capabilities here.

Point is that the M&PT forum would swamp the parking etc. issues and appellants and helpers alike would find it difficult to find cases and miss info.
  • Hi all. So, we've started a new parking board http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=163 and i also intend to start a new article discussion to see if we can start afresh.

A few of you have obviously been bothered by my post asking not to send people off to Pepipoo but i think it was slightly misunderstood. I didn't say the site couldn't be mentioned or have it censored out (although we did delete the first thread in the discussion) as a few have suggested. My request was simply to stop posts which said "go to pepipoo" and nothing else as this is not really a discussion. Several posts that had a reply and a mention to Pepipoo were fine.

The point of my last post was to try and build up a knowledge base of info on the forum so that as many people as possible can benefit from it. Hopefully our article is providing the info many need to get them started and they may not need to ask a question on the forum at all. Others may be able to find their question has already been answered by reading through the discussion.

Let's see how the new board goes. It is out of the ordinary for us to have a specific board for a something that doesn't really attract that many posts - ppi for example still does not have its own board - and you may find that people still ask questions in the general article discussion if they only want a little point in the right direction rather than full blown assistance, so please bear this in mind.

As i said last time, we do appreciate those helping answer questions. If there were more time in the day i would love to be able to do so myself but due to the number of topics we need to cover on the site this just isn't possible, so thanks again.

    Wendy
