Another great filler for baskets is bags of air. I just asked a local shop if they had any packaging i could have that they would be throwing away. I was thinking more along the lines of those white foam bits but they gave me tons of sealed pockets/bags of air. They really do the trick as they are more bulky for deep baskets.

Right i have just decided to make a ruby anniversary hamper but i need it for 2 weeks time any ideas of what to put in it?

So far i have the basket with a red lining. some chocolate ruby port and a thorntons chocolate champagne bottle that says happy anniversary on it.
:)Mummy to 2 wonderful boys :)
Want to be fit for 30 not fat at 30

Hi guys, some lovely work as always :-)

I have not been making hampers lately as I do not have the cash got to come up with some thing for 2 new babies lol 2 friends are expecting and they are due to give birth close togher. But I think I have it coverd the Pound Shop does some lovely things so will check it out.

Ok my question today is my daughter has asked for an Ice cream maker for her birthday next month. These are a shocking £20 to buy, is there a way of making a ice cream makers hamper cheaper than this.
 Wins in 09 = A vodka cocktail kit thing lol, £150 Amazon voucher.

You can make ice-cream without a machine, you freeze the mixture then take it out, whisk it a bit and put it back to continue freezing (check the internet for the correct way ;)). Bit more work but loads cheaper. To make a hamper you could print some recipes from the internet, add sprinkle pots, sauces, sundae glasses (Morrisons do coloured plastic ones)...

Ask on freecycle as I bet loads of people have bought them, then decided just to buy ice cream instead! And I remember the Book People had a nice looking ice cream recipie book called Scoop.

    Hi Louby_lou_lou,
What a great idea about "air pockets" for filling baskets. I've got a few of these from a parcel I got - never crossed my mind about using them. Also, made me think I could probably use bubble wrap too as I will be covering the whole thing with tissue paper or something!
I'm a bit long winded making this basket as I keep getting another order for a Nappy Cake. If I ever get finished, I will post a pic on the other board.

I had a look on Book People for that book but no luck, going to browse what else they have.

Will try free cycle too, not sure if I ice cream maker would be worth the hassel or not. Making it by hand might be more fun but I just do not know about these things lol.

Any one got any experience of ice cream makers V making by hand.

I can't find it on Book People now, sorry. They do have one called 'Tips for your ice cream maker' for £1.99 though. Might be worth looking in The Works if you have one nearby too.

Don't know if it's the right book but I found a book called 'Scoop' on Amazon and also e-bay. Have provided links for the cheapest on both sites: -

Hope it helps. looking forward to seeing a piccie when you've done it. I'm aiming to do baskets for christmas so looking for reasonable priced baskets.

I've made it both ways and by machine is easier but they are quite bulky to store, you also have to freeze the bowl you make the ice-cream in for 24 hours before using. So you either have to leave the bowl in the freezer in case you may make ice-cream or be prepared and pop it in there the day before you need it.

    These may help you...
