I am a bit disheartened, been to my grans today and while she said she liked my hamper, she kept going on about how good every ones else present was. She was saying how they have made an effort but liked mine better as I choose it but I could tell she was just being nice.

I tried to tell her that I was making her a special hamper for her 70th but instead of giving me ideas as I was hoping she might. She just went on and on about how her Paddy and Craig are planning something. This is her too sons and all she went on about today she did not seem that interested in me. Yet I am the person that makes all the effort all year round not just on special occasions.

    Sorry moan over, right Question?

Would it be mega sad if I made myself a Valentines hamper, just something to keep my mind happy. I am not a lover of valentines day as I have been a single mum from the start. I was thinking of buying a little thing each week, for a night in type thing, pamper in the bath for when my little one is in bed. A nice hot soak with some fav choc's (would this be unhygenic to eat choc in the bath room so close to the bog)

*hugs* Keep your chin up ... sometimes the older generation don't realise what they are saying when they get something in their head ... my gran said she loved her hamper ... but if you ask her 5 minutes later if she liked her present she would have to ask what it was I got for her. I am sure she doesn't mean it ...

As for the question .... I did this kind of thing one year ... I got so annoyed at everyone being all lovey dovey and me being a single mum that I did things like you are suggesting ... but also I did a couple of things for me and my son ... we had something to make (was pom pom monsters or something silly but very enjoyable) and we watched a dvd together with some munchies, then when he went to bed I took some chockies and candles and went and had a nice soak in a hot bath!

We both had a lovely night ... he was only 3 at the time bless him :D

Rusty I don't know if they are your kind of thing but have you seen the heart sky lanterns.
I posted a link yesterday on another thread for them. I think I might buy a pack for my hubs as a surprise. Quite romantic but don't know whether our OH's would get it!!??!!

I saw them on buy a gifts website when I was looking for OH's christmas present, they do a gold plated and a solid silver ... however I notice the prices have also gone up from around £30 to around £40 in a matter of a few weeks ...

I've got both a real rolo and a silver one that OH has got me - I far prefer the real one. Didn't realise how expensive they were though :o

I've not eaten it as I don't like them :rotfl:

ZLS1984 - don't be too worried about what your gran says...........some people are more appreciative than others and as for her birthday, well if her two sons are planning something then maybe her minds so taken up with that she shuts everything else out.
Carry on doing just what you do for her, I'm sure she appreciates it.

And pamper yourself, Valentines day or any other day come to that - and eat choccies in the bath if you want to..............so what if the loos nearby........your loo -your bathroom, do as you please and enjoy it.
    Bless you.
    Mary

I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

Surely it would have been easier to store unshredded, ready to shred next Christmas?
LOL well that's not as much fun :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Seriously tho, I already had a very large stiff christmas gift bag that I didn't want to get rid of yet and it all fitted in there nicely. If that hadn't have worked, I already have the hamper baskets stored and would have just put it in the top baskets in each box ready for nest year ;)

mary - if only! I just have to strike when the iron is hot otherwise it won't get done, just like my Christmas cards that I'd planned to do this year

I agree with mary43 zls1984 - my mother is a prize she still thinks the sun shines out of my ex - if only she knew the half of it :rotfl:.

I didn't bother to make her an xmas card this year as she never mentioned them before although she loved her basket - guess what she'll be getting this year as well ;).

I think it's a great idea to treat yourself - have been a single parent myself and there's nothing worse than all the hype over valentines day - still won't get a basket myself as think OH has lost his romantic streak since I married him. Might just do one for myself - bought my own flowers last year :rotfl:
