For a start those prices include taxes which are considerably higher in Europe, we only pay 5% they pay much more than that.

Futhermore "SOURCE: Energy.eu, based on Eurostat December '07 data."

    So thats last year.

The last figures for gas prices I have seen are in this document which is for June 2008.

    http://www.energy.eu/#domestic

In June 2008 for a consumption of 2000 cubic metres(at 22,000kWh is approx UK average) the price of a kWh in Euros was:
Figures in brackets are pence at today’s exchange rate of £1= 1.24 Euro.

What is the figure using the exchange rate availble in June rather then today exchange rate?

In June the Exchange rate was £1 = 1.27 Euros, instead of today's 1.24 figure I used. So it makes 2%-3% difference.

However you are quite right to raise the issue of exchange rate fluctuation. Since 01 Jan 2008 the Euro has risen against Sterling by 10%(from 0.7335 to 0,8065) and this affects price comparisons which ever way you look at it.

I have property where I pay for electricity in US$. The price per kWh in the summer was 10.1 cents and, at the then exchange rate, it cost exactly 5 pence.
It is still 10.1 cents but it now costs 6.4p for a kWh.

Wow! electricity has increased 28% - makes comparisons meaningless sometimes. Tell that to the OP>

You still have not told us what your vested interest in high energy prices is Cardew,
is this something you are ashamed of, something you wish to hide?

You really are a joke iamesbo.

That question comes firmly into the 'when did you stop beating your granny' category.

No it does not, you are just using it as an excuse to answer the question.
What is your vested interest in high energy prices, or are you going to claim you have none, because you will lose all credibility if you do.
  • I've wasted too much of my time responding to reactor/iamesbo. Can we just stop reacting to his pointless rantings and just hope he gets bored and goes away?

You can do what you like but please don't call my posts pointless rantings.
You are well aware that I and many others have had money *stolen* from them by Npower, for you to try and discredit me is rather disgusting, this site is supposed to be here to help people save money so why you are trying to defend a company which has, if my figure are correct stolen about £200 million of decent people money is quite beyond me.

What kind of person would do that?

What kind of person would not want to see justice done?

Quite frankly your views disgust me.

I will do whatever I can to see Npower brought to justice and I won't let the likes of you or anyone else stop me. So your pomposity is wasted on me.
  • Last one - this thread started as 'Gas prices in the UK higher than in Europe' but reactor/iamesbo has tried to hijack for his/her own purposes concerning his/her problem with npower despite already posting today on http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=822299&page=40 which clearly explains what the problem is with npower and how to address it.
