Gas prices in the UK higher than in Europe.
And this despite the fact that we produce most of our own gas whilst many Eurpean customers have no gas of their own.
So our gas is being sold of cheaply to the Europeans whilst our gas companies overcharge us.
What a state of affairs.
When are the authorites going to do something to stop our gas companies ripping us off?
So much for the so called watchdog OFGEM, more like a sleeping dog than a watchdog.

EXACTLY. It's like a joke. But we're not supposed to notice it. Like the price of the new cars, where for years we were paying much more than europe. But then nobody else seems to care do they ? So maybe we get the treatment - and the government- that we deserve.0

It was on bbc radio 2 news earlier today, that's where I heard it. The OH has been raving about it all day !0

Note that the figures from OFGEM are from before the huge price hikes which put our gas costs above Europe.
So there you have it OFGEM 'the regulator', giving out figures which it know to be wrong and misleading - that absolutely criminal.0 -

"The latest figures from regulator Ofgem indicate that gas bills in the country are the cheapest in Europe, and electricity bills are at similar levels to the rest of the continent.
But the statistics fails to note the price rises which have taken place so far this year."0 -
And note that we had similar prices for electricity as Europe before the huge increases in prices came in!!0

I am afraid this thread you started is quite typical of the threads appearing on this forum.
Have you read that article? Or, without being unkind, understood it?
The title is completely incorrect.
The article doesn't state "Gas prices in UK higher than Europe"
In fact it states just the opposite as this quote copied from the article shows:The most up-to-date figures from Ofgem, the regulator, do suggest that British consumers enjoy slightly lower gas prices than the rest of Europe, while our electricity bills are in line with out neighbours.
The point of the article(dated today) is that our prices are increasing at a faster rate than Europe. This is because we did enjoy a large price advantage and that advantage is being reduced.

I see from your subsequent posts that you have suddenly realised that the title of this thread is nonsense.
The article you quote as proof is dated today, and states European gas prices are more expensive, not cheaper.
So I suggest you give the relevant prices to prove your statement - or will those get in the way of a rant?0 -

I have heard the appropriate energy official speaking on this subject on the News (can't be bothered to look this up and post links, but I can confirm that this is genuine. The UK does not have sufficient storage, so sells gas to Europe in summer when it's cheaper. It's stored in Europe (France, I think), and sold back to us at a higher price in winter when we need it.
And no-one is creating a fuss about why are we not building the required storage.
