There are conflicting reports from the FSCS on this. Some people have been advised by the FSCs that you should not do this as it defeats the secure authentication, initiate and pay out processes based on an account holder's original Email address. Note that there is no suggestion by the FSCS to do this on its website. If this was the solution surely they would have recommended it by now. There has even been suggestions that this will put people who have used this workaround to the back of the queue.
I'd be very interested though to hear of anyone who did this and who has actually received the 2nd Email and, more especially, the transfer of their compensation.0 -

I did try changing my email address on the Icesave site and sending a blank email from that account, but nothing happened. I later queried this on the phone with FSCS and they said that it would definitely not work; only the email address registered with Icesave at the time it collapsed will work. So I have changed back to that, and am now spamming them from that address with REQUEST in the subject line as required by their Customer Services email that I received on Sat 15 Nov.
What I don't understand is, I received that email no problem from FSCS so why is the "first email" being kicked out by Toucan's spam filter?
Regarding Toucan, I have now had a couple of responses by email from Toucan's online support. Basically just complete nonsense. They are not aware of the Icesave/FSCS "first email" problem and appear to be unable or unwilling to do anything about it. I am certainly going to be parting company with Toucan once my current 12 months is over.

Just send a completely blank Email to Icesave@fscs.org.uk Nothing in the Subject line, nothing in thr body of the Email. That's all that I did and received the 1st Email by return almost immediately.
The reason that the Email you received from FSCS Customer Services got delivered was that it came from an individual Email address through the FSCS's normal server. The one that has been blocked was a mass mailing and the FSCS used a different server. That serverr has in the past been associated with spam and phishing Emails so was blocked by ISP filters. Most ISPSs have loosened their filters a bit to let them through by now.
I am appalled that Tiscali haven't done so and even more that they still don't appear to know what is going on. I am sure they do but they have not got the message down to their Contact Centre staff.
If you have an Email address for Toucan's online support, send them a link to the FSCS website at http://fscs.org.uk/consumer/ and this forum thread at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/newreply.html?do=newreply&p=15934739 That should make them aware of the problem!0 -

I don't think you can guarantee that the non response of the email is down to spam filters but unfortunately the message will be very high on any spam checker's score - loads of mentions of money, banks, compensation and the "to" part of the address is not the email address.
As long as you check your IceSave account regularly you can ignore the whole email process.0 -

Thanks. I'll try Toucan's online support with these links.
The weird bit is that my wife's email comes through exactly the same route and into my account with Toucan, and using her email address we got her "first email" straight back in respect of her account and that money is now back home in her HBOS account.0 -
That sounds as though IceSave didnt have the account linked to the email address then.
Unfortunately this would mean waiting until their "mop up" exercise of paper claims for the accounts not claimed.
I sincerely hope it isnt.0 -

I think you are right.
Skiglenshee,
Have you tried resending the Email?0 -
Yippee! I have just this minute received my long awaited "first email".
Something that I did must have worked:
1) I found my way to the spam filtering page in my Self Care page on https://www.toucan.com and set the Antivirus to "off". It says this also controls the spam filter.
2) I went onto my webmail page on http://wemail.toucansurf.com and clicked on the Preferences tab at the top of the page. In the box at the bottom which is headed mailing lists, I entered:
icesave@fscs.org.uk
fscs@savings.icesave.co.uk
icesave.hearfrom.com
savings.icesave.com
coumta01.netbenefit.co.uk
mail.highford.com
coumta##.netbenefit.com
fcsc.org.uk
HELOnewcastle.co.uk"
All of this stuff came from headers from emails that had come through a week ago from FSCS in respect of my wife's account for which we have successfully recovered the funds.
3) I then send loads of emails to icesave@fscs.co.uk with REQUEST in the subject line, and within an hour I had the elusive "first email".0 -
