  • Neither me or my husband have received the first email yet. We had used the same email address (freeserve) for both so I changed mine (to a hotmail email). I have just done the "request" email to the FSCS and have both received the reply to that "request" email, so am now hoping that we will receive the first email. I have logged in to our accounts and I can see the accounts with interest added (hurrah!) but when I click on "initiate" it won't let me go any further. Hoping to get our first email shortly now!

    The reply you have received to the "request" Email to the FSCS from them IS the first Email. You should reply to the FSCS email with a blank reply - just click on reply and delete all the contents so that it is completely blank and then send it. That will complete the Email verification with the FSCS and they will then send you the Second Email after which "initiate" will work.

    Ah right, thanks! I've replied, so in that case, I look forward to receiving the 2nd email shortly! Thanks very much for your help.
  • No problem. I'm in exactly same boat as you! My wine stock seems to be going down more rapidly as I anxiously await the return of our funds!
  • I had a call back this morning from the Customer Relations Manager at the FSCS. Unfortunately I was in a meeting and he said I should leave a message for him to call me when I'm free. I have just done that and so am awaiting his call.

    Are you like liffy and on Pipex or do you use another ISP? Please let me know and I can check out what the situation is for you. Does anyone else have a question I can put to him? (As he has had the courtesy to phone me back I would rather keep this to questions where advice is needed rather than complaints on broad issues.)

    im in canada so my ISP is canadian:eek:
    I found my eutopia tee hee I live in canada yeehaa!
  • I would just like to make the point that there is nothing in the first or second emails from the FSCS that is required in order for you to Initiate the compensation on your account once the Icesave computer systems at Newcastle Building Society have had the required flag activated by their random number generator to let you withdraw your money from your account to your linked external non Icesave account.

    Of course not getting an email at all could be a bad sign that the FSCS has somehow lost track of you but if you can log in to your account as normal and the Initiate link is shown against your account but with no initial text screen about the terms and conditions of the FSCS compensation payment then it is likely your second email will still reach you some time in the next couple of weeks.

    If you log in every day the sign that the second email has now been sent (even if your ISP's spam filters have blocked it) and you can now actually transfer the money out of your Icesave account is the appearance of a text screen saying "Notification" that you have to acknowledge and accept before you can view your account balance where Initiate is also shown. Once you have logged in and this screen has been shown then the Initiate button will now permit you to transfer money to your linked external account or accounts.

    Here is the Notification message:-
    NOTIFICATION

    FSCS is aiming to make this process as quick and simple as possible. FSCS has certain obligations to seek to make recoveries against Landsbanki and others for the amount of the compensation paid to you. This means that you must read and accept the following terms before FSCS can make payment. Your full deposit is being compensated.

    On the payment of compensation in respect of your deposit(s) with Icesave to your nominated account, all such rights, claims and entitlements, as you may have, and those that any joint account holder(s) may have, against Landsbanki, the Icelandic Depositors’ and Investors’ Guarantee Fund (DIGF) and any other party, for or in respect of or arising out of your deposit(s) will automatically and immediately pass to and be assigned to FSCS absolutely.

    As a result, the right to make any such claim against Landsbanki, the DIGF or any other party for or in respect of or arising out of your deposit(s) will be vested in FSCS. You acknowledge that any sums which would otherwise be payable to you, including any distribution or other payment from Landsbanki (in any insolvency or applicable composition or arrangement with creditors or otherwise) or the DIGF, will be paid instead to FSCS and that FSCS will be able to give a valid receipt to any person in respect of such claims. This will enable FSCS to make recoveries from Landsbanki, the DIGF and any other relevant party on any basis.

    If, after receipt of compensation from FSCS, for any reason, you receive any money or assets for or in respect of your Icesave deposit(s) or any claim for or in respect of or arising out of such deposit(s) (other than from FSCS through this process), you must immediately pay or transfer such money to FSCS. You must give all reasonable cooperation and assistance that FSCS asks in connection with any investigation or the pursuit by FSCS of any claims for or in respect of your Icesave deposit(s) (including being a party to any claim or proceeding brought by FSCS and executing any documents reasonably required to be executed by FSCS).

    Claims against any other party include but are not limited to any right, claim or cause of action that you have against any person (including Landsbanki or the DIGF), any fund or property in the hands of any other person for, arising out of or otherwise relating to your Icesave deposit(s), whether such claims arise in debt, breach of contract, tort, delict, misfeasance, trust or breach of trust or in any other way whatsoever and without limitation.

    This agreement and assignment is without prejudice to any other rights which FSCS has or may have or acquire and, to the extent that such rights conflict with these terms, FSCS may elect, to which election you consent, which rights and claims it may pursue. These terms are governed by and are to be construed in accordance with English law and you irrevocably accept the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts in respect of all matters arising out of or in connection with them.

    ...you don't actually need any e mails, just check the Icesave/fscs site and click initiate now & then....one day it will let you continue the process...
  • And this is the Application blurb that you will be required to click Continue to accept once you have your second email and after you press Initiate and before you can then transfer the money to your external bank account.
    Application

    You may now apply to be paid compensation.

    By completing this process you will be agreeing to the following:

    1. that your details, including your selected nominated account, remain correct and up to date;
    2. that you are entitled to be paid compensation in respect of your Icesave account balance(s) and that you are able to give valid receipt for payment;
    3. that, to the best of your knowledge, your Icesave account balance(s) including interest up to and including 7 October 2008 is (are) correct;
    4. that the full payment to you of your Icesave account balance(s) under this process including interest up to and including 7 October 2008 is in full and final discharge and settlement of the obligations of FSCS to fulfil your entitlement (if any) to compensation from FSCS in respect of your deposit(s) with Icesave;
    5. that if you hold a fixed-rate savings account which pays interest on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis, and you decide to hold that account until maturity, you will not be paid any amount (including for any interest) prior to maturity in respect of that account;
    6. that you consent to FSCS, HM Treasury and the Financial Services Authority processing, receiving and requesting any information and documents that may be needed in connection with your claim for compensation, or in the carrying out of their functions, and to the release and/or disclosure of such information and documents to any other person in connection with the payment of compensation or in the carrying out of such functions or as otherwise required by law; and
    7. that all such rights, claims and entitlements as you may have against Landsbanki Islands hf ("Landsbanki") and third parties will be assigned and transferred to FSCS.

    Thank you

    By clicking "continue" you confirm that you have read and understood these terms and that you accept and agree to be bound by them.

    And I cannot understand at all the logic sending of emails and blank responses. While you would get the first email this contains no personal details.

    If you send a mail from a different email to the one that your IceSave account was linked to then this will achieve nothing as the second email will still go to the original email account.

    I would strongly recomment that anyone who has gone through this process to "force" a first email checks their IceSave account on a regular basis. I see no way that this process can link the email address with the account.

    Am I missing something?

    Just read the FSCS site again and the following bit is crucial
    Please email us, using the email address used for your Icesave account, at Icesave@fscs.org.uk if you have not received the first email.

    If you do not use the email address that is linked to your IceSave account this will not work. Opening a hotmail or similar account to receive the first email will not result in the second email going to that email account.
