Yes thats the correct number, be sure to select option 4 if you want a human!:j
That I presume is the FSCS switchboard.....what theyve done is set up a Icesave hotline.......thats a 0845 number......I would like to phone a non 0845 number.....I have paid for a telephone call plan where ordinary calls are paid for. They can then take one hour to answer, and I dont have to pay the phone company.....Illegitimi non carborundum

No the 020 number leads to an IVR (automated voice announcement) system that gives you Options 1 to 4. Press 1 for a long waffling recorded announcement about the Icesave email that is no use or 4 to speak to an actual adviser on the FSCS helpline. Believe it or not plenty of the rest of us also have inclusive call plans too and also always try to always use any alternatives to 084/7 listed at www.saynoto0870.com In fact I am one of that website's leading activists.0 -
I don't think the first email is that important - it's contents are not specific to you and your ability to claim your compensation. It's possible to log on now - check to see that the button to start the compensation payment are there - it will not work now.
The second email was be relevant in that it will allow you a window of one month to log on and start the compensation payment. I think the first email is partly to let people know what's happening (in case they have buried their head in the sand and not visited the FSCS website) and partly to find email addresses that don't work. Remember they are trying to get the money out as soon as possible - if they had gone down the paper route it would have meant a lot longer. And the FAQ says that the paper route is there if some reason you are not able to claim online.
There are still plenty of things which can go wrong - they have tried to anticipate that in the FAQ i.e. you get first email but not the second email, you get the second email but you are not able to logon etc.
The bottom line is that the money is as safe as it can be - HMG are paying it after all. I for one is happy to get capital plus interest to 7 October - FSCS are working a lot faster than I thought.0 -

That seems to be what they are banking on. People being grateful for anything they get. But it is still an incomplete package as it means we suffer financial loss and the stated aim of the FSCS is to avoid you suffering any financial loss if your bank or building society goes belly up.0 -

I too am grateful, and appreciate that FSCS have a mammoth task on their hands....that HMG is paying for it....but this whole package can be scuppered by some minor highly paid unelected bureucrat in brussells/paris/luxembourg....claiming the compensation package is contrary to european community directive xyz or some such rubbish..........Illegitimi non carborundum

FSCS website updated tonight for those who have not had first e-mail.
"We would now like to ask anyone who has not yet received the first email to contact us using a special email address set up for this purpose."

The FSCS follow rules - they are in the FSA handbook. They are following the interest rules as per the handbook - the handbook did allow the FSCS three months to pay out but they were never geared up for 200,000 or 300,000 people which is why I say they are working pretty fast. Indeed the rules have recently been amended for "accelerated payment" which is what this is described as.
If the FSCS did not exist then we would have to look to the liquidator of the bank and then interest would have stopped at 7 October as effectively all contract would have terminated - then you'd waiting a long time for your money and the payout could have ranged from 0% to 100%.
Next we'll want them to pay for phone calls, postage, time-off work, electricity for having your computer etc. etc. - so that we feel that we have not suffered financial loss.
The FSCS do not owe us anything more than they are willing to pay - it is HMG and not FSCS which is topping up FSCS for the bit up to £16K and over £50k. HMG could have said that we have to wait until we get money out of Iceland - there could have been many variations but the what we are getting is a very good deal - you may have got nothing.0 -

TBH I Feel that the majority of us are more than happy, it is just one or two of the same people who keep 'banging on' about how hard done by we/they are at losing a few weeks interest.
Personally I am very grateful that the UK government is helping us out and very satisfied at how the FSCS are handling this issue.0 -
Hello all,
Just so I have got this right, I emailed the icesave@fscs.org.uk address and got a response straight away, so I deleted the content and subject and I got another response saying exactly the same as the first. So I deleted content but this time left the subject intact and then I got no further response.
Does that mean I am done? lol0
