Finally caught up; too late in the morning (and in life) to care about the implications of being totally honest and open in my thoughts.
I'm worried about the fact that the highlighted bold red lettering for glitches (sat on hands not to highlight in bold and red!) is being singled out for critcism, on the grounds that it lets Mr B find glitches
Why?
Because that was one of the compromises put forward during 'chatgate' - which followed on from 'nappygate'.
The 'chatgate' reasoning was "if some peeps want to chat, and some peeps want to follow the glitches, why not highlight the glitches, so that the peeps who don't want to read three pages of personal chat and flirting can just pick out the glitches, and the chatter/flirters can chat/flirt to their hearts' content".
'Nappygate' ran along similar lines (as I remember it). A glitch was shared among a number of people - who were identified through cryptic messages here. They placed their orders (as related on here) before the glitch was shared publicly.
When the glitch was addressed, the blame was placed on 'lurkers'.
Right!!
No one would have picked up that something was afoot...
'Regular posters', in on the glitch, only ordered one item each...
and so on.
One of the causes of discontent at the time of nappygate was the fact that another site was being used to host criticism of posters on here (and the ubiquitous 'lurkers').
I'm afraid that I'm not convinced by the arguments for 'going underground'.
And - puts neck conspicuously on chopping block - when sharing personal details on the internet, I would prefer to do so with a more or less nationally recognised website, headed by a publically identifiable person.
The idea that I might be sharing my personal information with someone who is only known to me as a pseuodnym on the web is much less attractive.
My personal opinion only.
But that is, for me, a very strong reason for preferring to be a member of MSE, rather than becoming a member of an 'underground', yet publicly advertised facebook group.0 -

Coolcait, this is not a reply to yourself, just wanted to use your post to highlight a possible concern people may have
When you join the FB group and provide me with your MSE username I can not read your profiles(IE where you live etc). I can only access that if both of us do a 'friends request'(even then you should not be putting personal info on profiles-I cringe that people put their mobiles on it! Argh!). Therefore you are not 'identifiable' to myself. :T
It just means that all existing members of the FB group know that trolls are not playing games etc. This was agreed by 81 out of the 82 members previously.
FB is not 'going underground' it was set up before due to requests as we were all just wanting to be nosey :rotfl:
There have been alot of requests today and all of those who fit into what the original 81 out of 82 people agreed with are aprooved...so far everyone0 -

I am not in favour of a mass exodus to facebook, not everyone wants the lack of anonymity. And also this site is monitored by Mods and board guides, and is subject to massive scrutiny which gives us privacy regards our ISP number etc.
Apologies for snipping your excellent post pollsdolls, but I wanted to mention facebook and perhaps suggest to people who do sign up to facebook exactly what could happen, and to be wary of giving out your real names and locations.
See here as an example:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7376738.stm
Earlier this year, some mean-spirited person signed up to MSE to post a link to the existing facebook account. Being the inquisitive person that I am, I hit the link after someone sent a PM saying that they'd seen my user name on there. I looked to see what I'd allegedly written, didn't have time to see what I was supposed to have posted, so did a quick copy and paste of approximately three pages.
It transpired that someone had mixed me up with another poster, and I didn't think too much about it, but I did notice that the majority of people had used their full names, locations, and user names on MSE. I remembered earlier about the copy and paste list that I've mentioned, took a quick glance of it, and Googled a couple of names from the few names that I'd spotted..
I now know at least one MSE poster's telephone number. I also know what another poster bought and reviewed on a site. And that another poster had a problem with a court case claim. They're the only posters I've Googled so far.
Without wanting to panic people, or seem like I'm attempting to rain on anyone's parade, or even knock facebook too much, (as I know a lot of people use this for social reasons), I think it's only fair that the younger and more vulnerable members of this site are made aware of some of the problems facebook can throw up, as facebook does tend to be aimed at the younger members of society.
Hth to make people think about what they post on various sites, if nothing else, and to advise them yet again to be ultra-careful about their personal details.Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive. ~ Sir Walter Scott0 -

How uncanny coolcait. We must both have been worrying about the same things at the same time.

But surely there is no risk to anyone if they do not put their real names in any way in their MSE user ID, which we are discouraged from doing anyway
Additionally "Here come the girls" is a CLOSED group which means we can not look at each others profiles, unless of course people are buddies anyway.
I'm all for being careful, but if the group is CLOSED and profiles are therefore PRIVATE I can not see how anyone is endangering their privacy or security. The group was changed to the closed status after concerns of this previously to protect everyone as much as possible.
I think the concerns are when people join OPEN groups, then have personal details accessable to EVERYONE on the net etc.
Although really nobody should put their workplace/email/mobile in the forms when you fill in your profile as there are way too many nutters out there! That is where all reported problems have come from so far0 -
Don't think it has been mentioned before(could well be wrong) but the No7 Mettallic Eye Pencil that is priced at £6.75 is scanning at £7.00 not a huge amount but still extra money in Mr B's pocket
Think I mentioned this a couple of days ago, but glad to see it's not just me this has happened to! Could not be bothered to argue about 25p, as in that particular store it would probably result in at least 4 SAs scratching their heads for 20 minutes trying to work out what to do...DFW no.554 - Proud to be dealing with my debts :TDAVID TENNANT CAN PROBE ME WITH HIS SONIC SCREWDRIVER ANYTIME...:AFLYING THE FLAG FOR THE CAMBRIDGE BOOTS TARTS :happyhear0
