I am still on page 40, so I am way behind in this discussion. We all have opinions on this and mine is that I feel that this thread should continue as it always has for years. Those of us who have been around for a long time know that Boots has always been aware of this site and IMO accept that:-
we find glitches and they 'fix' them.

The speed in which they are fixed is relevant to the amount of information given here.

The more information that is posted the quicker they are fixed.

By information I mean (And I am wording this carefully) posting about stuff, that sounds like bragging. I don't want to quote examples but I am sure that people know what I mean.

I do not believe that what we call 'glitches' are all mistakes, many are marketing tactics. For example, when Boots gave a free Palmolive shower creme with every item. We all ended up with loads and I don't believe that Boots didn't know that most orders had 40, 50 or 60+ shower crèmes in every order.

Same with the Mitchum, it was no coincidence that when the vouchers first came out, Boots suddenly had Mecum displays everywhere we looked about 6 or 7 places around the store. They were never there before.. Think about it.

IMO the real problem is when people abuse the glitch, get greedy and then brag about it. I know a lot of people have returned items from a glitch for a refund. Have had double points etc etc. The point I am trying to make is don't post on here what you don't want Boots to know. I posted recently about this Think twice Post once.

    ,
I am not standing in judgement, what people do is down to their conscience, just trying to make a points on what I have seen happening in the past. But the more information which dams you as an individual will also dam this community as a whole.

I think Boots are happy to have the glitches until they run their course, but the greed element creeps in and spoils it for all.

I am not in favour of a mass exodus to facebook, not everyone wants the lack of anonymity. And also this site is monitored by Mods and board guides, and is subject to massive scrutiny which gives us privacy regards our ISP number etc.

    Hiya pollsdolls

I started on page 50 of this thread as I have been offline for a week or so. So I don't know the full background to the current discussion. Whatever that background is, your post stands for itself, and I totally agree with every word. :T

I admit to getting annoyed with the fact that 'lurkers' are blamed for every glitch that is stopped by Mr B.

Maybe I'm just too self-aware at times :p

When the 'JK nailfiles glitch' was happening, I had a Saturday shopping in Glasgow, and bought myself 2 JK nailfiles for £4, and received 500 points for the privilege. And toddled off all warm and cosy and happy. :D

After devouring a meal deal with too much caffeine, I decided to go for some more JK nailfiles :o . Horrors! They were all gone. And I caught myself thinking 'SOMEONE has taken them all!!' :o

Had I come onto the board at that moment, I might well have ranted about that 'SOMEONE' and 'lurkers'. :o

Fact is, it might have been another couple of people like myself buying two files each. Or even (gasp) four random 'non-bootsers' buying one file each. I don't know.

I do know that, for every glitch - whether online or in-store - I have seen at least one 'non-lurker' tell us about multiple purchases of the glitch. 'Sounds like bragging' is a very good description of those posts, IMO. They may very well be written in excitement, in a spirit of sharing and so on, but I personally find that it doesn't sit well with me that 'regular poster x' can excitedly tell us of multiple purchases, yet 'lurkers' are blamed for being 'greedy' and giving away the glitch.

If 20 'glitch' items are sold, what is more likely to attract Mr B's attention?

    - 20 'lurkers' buying one item each?
    - 10 'lurkers' buying 2 items each?
    - one 'regular' buying 20 items?

Yet who is likely to attract more criticism on here?

From previous forays into this area of discussion, I know that my post may well stir things up. It is not meant that way. It is an honest account of how I have felt about some of the things which have been said on Boots related threads in recent weeks.

Does the Boots thread need to go underground? In my opinion it doesn't. It just needs to sail a little less close to the wind, IMO.

So you can get 2 boobledubs for £5.00 instead of £15.00 if you use a purplie and buy a couple of other things to bring the total up to £10.00 (and chances are you'll err on the side of caution and spend at least £11.00 to make sure the glitch works) AND you get another purplie which will entice you back to spend another £11.00 on the same thing...

I can see why Mr B would like that :D You'll likely spend at least £22.00 with him instead of taking your custom to MR S or Mr T or anyone else in the neighbourhood!

    Or

you can get 25 binglebongs for nowt if you're a member of the binglebong club, and have a selection of vouchers from various sources (including your OH's and your mum's and your next door neighbour's membership of the binglebong club) - all of which say they can't be combined, and you buy a token item to cover the fact that it's nowt for all of that...

I can see why Mr B wouldn't like that

IMO, it's the latter 'shops' which are drawing attention to the glitches. Maybe 'lurkers' ARE shopping like that in their thousands - who knows?

We do know about the shopping patterns of 'regulars'.

I can now only use Clairol Nice n Easy non permanent since I developed an allergic reaction to hair dye a few years ago. What started off as an itchy scalp got progressively worse and I ended up with badly blistered eyes and swollen lips (about 4 times the size of Angelina Jolie). I looked a proper fright and it lasted several days but I refused to give in to my premature grey hair and have been using Nice n Easy ever since with no reaction. It doesn't contain any ammonia or peroxide, the downside is it only lasts about 4 weeks. If you are going to use any hair dye I would urge you to PLEASE do a skin test first as these allergic reactions can be potentially very serious. HTH

    quote]

I totally agree with this advice! I always considered the skin test a faff until one of my work colleagues had the kind of reaction you described. Shortly after that I read on the BBC website about a woman who had died from an allergic reaction to hair dye!

According to mother nature, I have a lot of grey hair. Yet currently my hair is a glorious titian ;) . What an excuse for being temperamental :rotfl:

But I was happy to be gray(ish) for an extra day while I checked out the results of the 'patch test/skin test'.

It IS worth taking the time to do it.
