WM has been on twice, school clothes are in the TD. I need to iron DH a shirt for tomorrow, and sort out the lunch bags. Really lookin forward to a day off. TK Max for a nice fritter? Do some gardening? Go back to bed and read all day? Do my tax return? I just like having the choice!
Off topic request for help please! Can anyone recommend some reading books for reluctant readers? DS1 is 5 and in year 1. he hates reading - we talked about it tonight and he says it is because it is boring - he really doesnt care what mr flopsy bunny had for tea. I understand where he is coming from and wondered if anyone could suggest a reading scheme that covers the key stage 1/2 words that might engage his interest? He likes engineering, vehicles, diggers, transformers/star wars, pirates, how things work, etc. I have ordered magnetic key words as he is very much a learning by doing sort of person. He has the highest verbal score in his class but the lowest word recognition, he just isn't interested. He is surrounded by books, both DH and I read a lot, but he hates being read to, even aout things he is interested in. I think he sees in pictures not words.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
Summermoon great news
Johanne biggest hugs honey, look after yourself and little one x
Justamum good luck
embb Coast 2 Coast in Darlington is the best shop IMO for lizard stuff in the north east!
Diva, thinking of you, B&Js is great (I had to cut some out of the tub the other night because it was too frozen) could you get NHS funding towards the cost of private treatment if they won't provide the service? With you on the back of hand thing, they always have to with me, or once they did my foot!
Mudbath hope you feel better soon
MOAM have you tried the dyslexia action site? They have a books guide and all kinds on there.
pigpen I think you're right with your DD, too much at once is not good, sensory overload. What are they using to strap them with and how much are they doing of her foot/toes? You could if it's just around her toes etc stick funky plasters on them that won't come off.
hex unfortunately not too many wise words from me, my oldest HATES story books. Instead he has factual books. I love the Usbourne ones, he seems to enjoy them a lot more. Ones based on factual stuff is always a hit here too. He loved these when he was 5/6 http://www.usborne.co.uk/catalogue/browse.asp?css=1&cat=1&subject=r&subcat=IB of course you might be able to get them cheaper elsewhere. The quote off the website says it all really 'Great reading practice for children who prefer fact to fiction'.
DS2 now invested, he's not keen on having that thing around his neck :rotfl: I did warn him. Hmmmm, I'm not very good at sewing but have half a dozen badges to sew on.....bother.
Not been too productive since, apart from reading through the thread to catch up with you lot. Kids are being awful to be honest, well more so DS1, getting right on my nerves, going to bath him as that tends to calm him down a bit. Unfortunately got food to cook later when DP is due in (who was being a bit more pleasant this evening)
Considering online shop, will put what I need into mysupermarket and see what it comes to/if it's worth it.One day I might be more organised...........

Tiddles has insoles for her shoes now and has to have her middle toes strapped to try to encourage them to grow straight.. and she went hysterical because she does not want them strapping up.. and I can't get out of her why.. she was just being weird I think!! But if she doesn't get them straighter (she walks all over them at the moment) they will want to operate on them when she is older.... one of you must have experience of this... HELP!..
Was it the feeling of the strapping? As a person who has a lot of foot strapping at the moment I can report it feels hard and scratchy - and itches beyond belief!
Because her feet are still growing - would tubing of some sort - with the strapping on top work? With bribery of sparkly nail varnish?
And maybe you will have to suffer the same - if mummy can, you can, kind of thing?
MoamAlthough no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.... life is a WIP.

Indeed I have - I live a mile away from their head office and its where we had the assessment. LOL
Awaiting the written report and LEA's reaction at the end of the month - and then see where we go. School has been very positive so far and I'm trying to be.. but its the unknown.

Just gonna watch casualty from Sat whilst catching up on the thread. But I've done what I intended in the kitchen so am quite happy. The flat's not perfect but considering I was late in it looks ok.

Hex.. don't push it!! He will learn that reading is fun to do in time.. he is developing in other areas at the moment. DS2 was 10 before he read a book for the sheer enjoyment.. DS3 was 8.. DS1 was about 8 months old lol.. they are all so different and boys are notoriously later than girls for picking up the more boring aspects of learning.. reading.. writing etc.. they prefer to 'do' on the whole.. stereotyping here of course! Give him books on the topics he is interested in.. and stuff the 45 words they are supposed to learn.. he'll get those eventually. DS3 loves the horrid henry books and the horrible histories and pokemon annuals... DS2 likes the animorphs (but he is a lot older) Most of mine like geeky things.. dragons and wizards etc.. If you nag him it will put him off but just knowing they are there and that you are both interested will give him the incentive to read them in time. It is really offputting when you desperately want to read a book and cannot read half the words.. when he has picked up more words and it is easier for him to read he will.. having people read to you is a pita.. they always read at the wrong pace.. I read really fast and often read ahead when things are being read out to a group.. ie in class.. He will get there his teacher will just have to be patient!!
Oh.. get him an encyclopaedia.. they have snippets of information which is eays to memorise.. and therefore learn to recognise the individual words and helps the general knowledge.. Mine have the kingfisher childrens encyclopaedia and it is brilliant. Also when he asks what a word means or a thing is encourage him to look it up in a book to find out the information he needs.. it all helps.. and he will realise reading can help you understand the world and will be encouraged.. mine once asked how a volcano works.. they had been looking at them at school but not actually covered the whole topic.. so we grabbed the book and looked it up.. the book was left on the table and next time I looked they were soaking it up.. definitely a good buy there!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Well, I'm much better than yetserday, ABs are definitely better than the other ones. But my stomach's whizzing round like a whizzy thing from whizzville. Not settled at all. However, in true female style, what did I do the second I started to feel better.... not shopping or eating chocolate.... I did too much that's what!!!! I walked the dog, and went to the supermarket. So now I feel really weak, and floppy. Great, what a dufus (sp)
So school run is looming, no dinner prepared. I'm going to eat lunch, collect trhe children, and then just lie still till DH gets home. He'll have to make tea. I can't/won't. So there!!!
take care honey - I wont be around to keep an eye on you!!!
