the toe strapping goes over one toe.. under the next then over the third.. like a hammock thing in the middle for the curly toe. It was just micropore tape.. and I think that might be the problem I am pretty sensitive to it and it makes me feel like it is burning so I wondered if she was the same. I did offer pink sparkly polish.. and red.. and twinkly stars but she was beyond redemption and stopped screaming the second I took it off.. while we were sitting in the pod's office.. I didn't care she was distressed. I think maybe a little bit of bandaging with a bit of linty stuff will be comfier.. I'll do you a pic of the toes and then of the strapping IF she will let me and you can come uo with a genius plan!

Wow I'm surprised you supply these - our students are expected to bring everything they require. We will replace a pen if it runs out during the exam.

We supply because most parents won't. Have got the bargain ones from Tescos so should last long enough for 2 exams!!
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

Tooti - you know me....I might have my ups and downs but I like to get my list done (most of the time!!!):rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: . Saying that, i'm shattered so when DH comes in from the shop i'll scan it all and then go to bed!

Hex - I read things like Horrid Henry to my son. When we came to one of his 'key words' he read it. It became a game as he really wanted to spot a word he knew. He started to really concentrate and most boys love Horrid Henry (and girls come to that!!). I used to worry about DSs reading but he's 7 and had just read Harry Potter so I know he very quickly caught up - he just didn't see the point of the school reading books. Isn't that men in general....they do it if there's a point to it :rotfl: :rotfl: .

Thanks for everyones good wishes. I feel a bit of a fraud because apart from being covered in blisters and feeling really tired I actually feel pretty ok :o xx

I would agree there - horrid stuff - brings me out in wheals in 30 minutes.

I suspect you are in for some experimenting to find something soft enough for such young skin. Will ask my physio when I see him for next strapping session - he's pretty good on ideas.

g&b - thank you for asking after DD -she went into school today, but rang me to pick her up after break (when she has a free) as she had tummy ache, and felt tired. She still looks very washed out, so I'm trying to make her rest, sleep at a reasonable hour, eat sensibly - you know, all the things that just come naturally to a 16 year old girl!!
I hope that you are feeling much better - well on the road to recovery now?

hex - don't forget comics! Lots of boys love them. There are loads of proper books that come in a cartoon format, and non fiction is usually a winner too. Enjoy you day tomorrow - I'm having this week as a sort of half term, but with two days work, as last week was so rubbish!

valli - happy to hear that today went well.

I never got around to doing today's list - well, it can wait until tomorrow! I did however do three or four lots of washing, made chicken stock, then used it for roasted butternut squash soup - delicious! I used a recipe from Sarah Raven's Garden Cookbook, and it worked great.

I've also done a lot of reading about Assessment for Learning online, which has been on my list of things to look into properly, since I did a lightning introduction on a course. I now need to print off the information, make notes, and then try it out in class. I was inspired to get on with this as there was a staff meeting on Monday, and one of the suggestions was something that rang a few bells - only I'm pretty sure that they're not proposing to do it in the right way for the right reasons...(ie, to improve the test results, and to give staff extra info about what they've not taught properly, as opposed to involving the pupils to improve their learning...)

Now I need a cup of tea, or that'll be another night when I sleep badly...

    See you tomorrow!

Both Mudbath and Pigpen have given some very sensible advice re- reading. I'm afraid my experience is with much older ones. By the way the Horrid Henry are available from the Book People. http://www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&langId=100&pageSize=10&beginIndex=0&searchScope=SimpleSearch&resultType=2&resultCatEntryType=1&catgrpSchemaType=2&vipStatus=&fromPage=basicSearch&layout=oneColumn&pageNumber=&pageSizeOption=&format=&sortOption=&ageRange=&onlySets=&categoryName=&categoryPath=&categoryId=&luceneSearchType=BASIC&searchTerm=horrid+henry

  • Hex - what phonics system does the school use?

We've used Superphonics & Read Write Inc at home. to better effect than the school one (Codebreakers).

Also have you tried PC games - lots of phonics/early reader ones about- or using magnetic letters/writing in sand etc?

but ((hugs)) - know where you are coming from - its very frustrating isn't it?
