(I think of Toots as a sort of cheerleader while Flower is a secret Peg addict waiting to come out of the closet ... mmmm ... she's been quiet today?)
:j :j :j Here I am.... Been busy today and made myself do work stuff but just catching up now... Glad you got through the dreaded 'O' - is it finished or is there more tomorrow?Mum_on_a_mission wrote: »Indeed I have - I live a mile away from their head office and its where we had the assessment. LOL
Awaiting the written report and LEA's reaction at the end of the month - and then see where we go. School has been very positive so far and I'm trying to be.. but its the unknown.

Glad you have got the diagnosis sorted - When my DD was at school they wouldn't even test her and when I told her teacher that I was getting her tested myself, he said not to, because, and I quote "she is just a lazy child, and getting her tested will only give her another excuse"     Still annoys me to this day - first time EVER that I was struck dumb! I think I became so angry that my body stopped me talking incase I killed someone... luckily for him, he had walked off before I got full use of my mouth and body again...
She is now 19, passed all her exams (not A*, but passes nether the less) and is a fantastic artist/designer - they ALWAYS have something else to make up for the dyslexia, usually something with their hands but everyone is individual - DD's last school used these things to help with her english/maths to help her through and it worked.
She also did something called "Brightstar" (not cheap, cost us £1000) - it was absolutly brilliant though, brought her reading age up 5 years in 6 weeks... unbelievable results and the school saw a marked improvement. I just tried looking them up on the web, but can't find them now, so not sure what happened to them.
DS (ADHD not Dyslexic) went to a place called Kip McGrath (http://www.kipmcgrath.co.uk/) and they were about £15 a week - basically a private tutor for 2 hours - very good and he did maths & english to help him (fat lot of good it's done him - it doesn't change their attitudes...:rotfl: ) but they also work with dyslexics of any age...
It can be expensive, but there is a lot of free help out there for you (you should be given a child psycologist to help plan stuff, etc), and they also get extra time for exams and help in the classroom too - make sure you get it as you won't unless you ask/chase...

G&B - have you worked out why you have no water yet? That reminds me of the time years ago when my daughter phoned me at work and said "Mum, there's no hot water". I said "OK, probably something wrong with the boiler - I'll sort it out when I get home". Got home and found out that there was LITERALLY no hot water - rather than the tap running and just cold water coming out - NO water was coming out at all! :rotfl:In that case, the ballcock thingy in the header tank had got stuck up with grot so nothing was getting through. I did say to DD that she needed to be a little bit more specific next time.
Dinner's done and washing up done after. Have just watched the BB2 programme on British Fashion and it was a right nostalgic programme. Took me back to my yoof big time - teddy boys, skin heads etc. But I got really philosophical and ponderous over it all. I hadn't realised fashion was, really, a symbol of rebellion. It was also interesting how the Liverpudlians got the monopoly on the Casual Scene and how it all sort of became pertinent in the football stadiums and seems to be a reason for conflict.
Dear me I'm rambling and need to get to my bed. But, it explains a lot!

Hex your DS sounds very like DS3 at that age (he's year 2 now) apart from he has always loved us reading to him. If he got a word wrong whilst reading we had to whisper it to him so he could pretend he knew it and if he got a word wrong he insisted on reading the page from the beginning. He is now actually a really good reader for his age and is happy to learn new words and goes back at the end of a book to find the words he didn't know.
Ideas - what about fun books with flaps, buttons etc to make them more interactive. DS loves the BBC bitesize website as if you get it wrong it is really funny and he finds the computer telling him to try again fine. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Briefly popping in to say hugs and night all, I'll catch up on the thread tomorrow.
Work colleague called and said she'll come round to collect some papers first thing tomorrow. she told DS she'll be waiting when I get back from dropping him at work experience. Why can't they leave me alone when I''m off sick. I felt rough but did go to A & P tonight as we were having a test. I'm glad I got it over with and got 15/20 :j

I just have to find a large present for DD2 (11) and DS1 (17) now.... I need to make 2 or 3 more payments this month but they can wait until Wednesday... but any help is welcome.. oh no.. I decided DD2 is getting a new DS seeing as the boys broke hers.. so just DS1..
Do you know about the chip you can get for the ds, its like a game cartridge that slips in the back and you use a mini sd card for the memory for the game? we have one for emily it holds over 200 games and it also plays mp3s and dvd in the right format. If you want more info pm me. Its costs about £50 depending what size memory card you want. You can touch the dust but please don't write in it !
