I've just read this thread again and honestly can't believe how much some of these children are doing?

Do they really need all this? Don't they get really tired?

I can't believe it either. How does everyone afford to spend so much money on activities for there children.

I feel like a bad mum now as I don't pay for my two children to do any activities, my husband teaches my two children the piano, he has grade 8 himself, and my son goes fishing with my husband, but as he is under 12 doesn't need a permit, my daughter (12) just isn't interested in "club" type activities, she would rather help me in the garden or have a girly shopping day.

I don't think my daughter who has just started high school could cope with extra activities after school, she has lots of homework and is simply to tired after school.

More than £20 - please state if it's not too rude of me to ask!
Tried to average it out as some are per term, some per week and some monthly. So here goes.
    D.S.
    GYM £15
    SWIM £7.50
    COOKING £2.50

He also has school holiday £180, basketball holiday camps £152 (monthly avg =£27.75
    So on him it's £52.75 p/m (+£10p/m mag subscription)
    D.D
    BROWNIES £10
    TRAMPOLINING £35
    GUITAR £44
    SWIM £7.50
    COOKING £2.50
She also has brownie camp £60 (£5p/m)
so total on her is £104!!

    Both together is £156.75p/m + £10p/m mag

At this point I'm off for a lay down in a dark room!!
Seriously though they love all of them the physical ones are mostly at the weekends and they don't get pocket money. As they get older they get more expensive, that's why we stopped at two. As for the are they worn out question, well no, they seem to be just fine, they sleep well but still get up nice and early, never needed to wake them up.
Time, Tide and Diarrhoea wait for no man. ;)
  • Nothing for mine really. They have pocket money and phone credit £15 per month x 2
They do paper rounds for anything else they want.
DD does plays rugby for the school team free and ds is training as a sound engineer doing the school productions.

I too am surprised at how much people's children do and the amount of money spent
This thread is quite interesting and informative for me (thanks OP)

I have a 6 year old boy who I am planning on enrolling in cubs/karate this year and a daughter who turns 5 next week who has been nagging me for the past year for dancing or gymnastics lessons - she doesn't know anybody that goes so I've just starting making enquiries locally re prices and session times.

I hated ballet and disco lessons which I had as a child periodically - I was so shy :o - I can't believe she is confident to just go in there knowing nobody and join in - it's a good thing - guess she's nothing like I was as a child!

My son on the other hand will probably have to be dragged along to cubs kicking and screaming - he is shy so we plan to go with a friend - I think he will enjoy it once he gets there!

    Less than £20
    Gym (school) £3
Swim lessons £1.30 (soon to go up to £2.20)
    Rainbows £2
    Dance £4
So not too much really but then the bus fare to get there does add up! I think it does her good, she is an only child and needs the company of others, it would be hard with just the 2 of us all of the time
:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly :D

    1yo - £2, Toddler Group
    4yo - does nothing yet
    6yo - £2.25, Beavers
    14yo - £0, Army Cadets is free.
There are things on top though, so camping/days out with their groups would cost extra, but these are not often and not expensive.

6yo will be starting Martial Arts in the new year as its something she wants to do, but waiting for baby to get here first - that will be another £5 a week. When the 4yo hits 5, she will probably start Rainbows another £2 odd a week.

So at the moment, its not a lot! Although I bet I spend more in petrol carting them to groups!!

Just to update - 6yo is now 7 and the Martial Arts cost £15pw!!!! Thats 2 sessions - just pleased she enjoys it and is good at it, because for that amount she is being whipped out fast if she doesn't!

4yo is starting Rainbows in about 4 weeks.

I did mention about camps out not being expensive. HA! The 14yo wants to go to Norway next year with the Army Cadets. Thats £350....... It took a while to get the deposit together, at least I can spread the rest of the cost until October.
