    Less than £10
    Less than £10 pw- inc petrol. I've only got a teeny baby though, so thanks to surestart most of our activities are free. We go to one toddler group that costs £1.50. I do drive to one group but the rest I walk to.

    If my LO is anything like me when I was younger then I can see her wanting to do everything going, so it will most likely get very expensive!! :)

    She is in the smallest group at the moment, there are 7 kids to 2 volunteers usually and this is the group which can't swim on their own yet! Other groups might have 2 volunteers to 20 kids.

    I assume for your money you are getting a better ratio and more intensive swimming lessons.

    I believe the teachers in our club are paid, but with the assistance of many volunteers in all non-teaching positions.

    The teaching is excellent, but the groups are around 20 children with one teacher. However they can all swim. And the behaviour from the children is great, with very little 'mucking around', unlike traditional lessons we have had previously. And the teachers spoke to both my children by name from the very first lesson, which I thought was amazing.

    Excellent quality, but expensive.:)

    Well in that case I can assure you that you are probably getting a better deal even though you are paying more, at our club its learn to swim by intimidation, they shout so much and are so stern that the kids progress just to get away from the 'teachers'!

    (actually thats what my DD needs, I've been trying to teach her for 4 years with no success, they've got her going in 3 lessons)

    We have experienced more than a few swimming teachers operating this style.

    We have however also had a couple of really really lovely teachers (who happen to have children), but I think the combination of group size, pool side noise and children playing up often facilitates a very strict approach, which then puts some children off - usually the well behaved ones that are the teachers' dream.

    My children don't respond to shouting or strictness in any environment. And given the physical challenge and hard work involved in swimming, it's completely detrimental to progress IMO.

    My children don't like their lessons much. Or rather more the thought of them. But thankfully the teachers are actually good by these standards. My eldest started off in a higher group with a male ex-Army Officer. I wasn't surprised in the least that she didn't survive her first lesson and moved groups. Luckily she has a young female teacher now who really tries to encourage her. :) Lest not forget that I am talking about a 7 and 8 year old!

    3 x £1 for toddler group for 2 yr old Plus donation of fruit.
    1 x £3.50 for a session in a creche (would do two days if I could afford it as he gets so much from it.)
    1 x £1.50 for Rainbows for 5 year old
    1 x £4.50 for Ballet/Tap for 5 year old. (plus costumes, exams etc probably an extra £80 a year.)

    I would love to eldest to do swimming lessons but we don't have a pool I can get to easily as I don't drive. Just as well as it would have to come out of the food budget...

    Wow never added it all up like this, now I know where all my money goes.

    DS 1;
    Football subs £15 per month
    Other teams £2 per week. Its the cost of the boots that are a killer.

    DS 2;
    Music Guitar and Piano £80 per term.
    Teen Gym membership £18 per month.

    DD 1-has no activity's so pay her mobile phone bill £30 per month.

    DD2 swimming lessons £40 every 8 weeks, creche £3 per week, Dance £3 per week.

    The big ones get £20 spends each month, they go to the under 18's night at a club twice a month, this is £6 entry and money for drinks but pay for this out of thier spending money.

    This does not include the money I spend on school trips which is a huge ammount.
