How much do you send on children's activities weekly?

Folllowing on from another thread i have got to thinking about how much money i spend on activities for my son weekly. At the moment it's very little because he's only 4, but i know as he gets older he's going to get expensive.... so how much do you spend on average and on what kind of activities.

And yes it should be "spend", not "send" in the title, but can't seem to edit the title?

Ok I've got two nine year old girls. I spend per week

    Irish Dancing 2 x £3
    Woodcraft Folk 2 x £1.50
    Swimming Lesson 2 x £3.50
    French Club £3.50
    Belly Dancing £3
    Drama & Dance £12

In all £34.50 per week, not including costumes, accessories, shoes (drama needs 3 different kind! ) etc.
Blimey! I've never actually added it up before
The classes they go to are fairly resonable tbh as they don't do exams. That's when it starts to get really pricey. They just do a lot of things.

At the moment it is not a lot....but they are only 4 (just) & 19 months.

They both go to swimming lessons - about £3.50 each (we pay per term & I can't remember) & the eldest does ballet £2.75 per week (but she only has to pay if we go)

I know as they get older they will cost more & more - not just financially but time wise too. As a child I played a couple of sports at county level & my Dad would spend lots of weekends shipping me around the region to training or tournaments, plus all the equipment etc.

IMO it is all worth while as it builds their confidence, helps them make friends etc.

The seven year old gets a pound for skating and £1.50 for Brownies and the five year old just gets a pound for skating. Total £3.50.

I ticked under £20 a week because I'm not sure if it's less than a tenner. I have gym membership for the whole family which is £67 a month, that includes the two toddlers going to a gymnastics class once a week and the 7 year old going trampolining as well as hubby & I's activities. Each of the kids' classes would have been £35 for 10 weeks if we hadn't taken out the gym membership.

At the moment that's all we do that costs money but I'll also have subs to pay when I start going to toddler groups with the babies.

My 4 year old goes to a council run gym club which is £2.20 a week. Thats it. The rest of the time is with me going to the park which is free, swimming I pay £2 for me and she is free.
We try to do lots of free things as money is tight

DD goes to Brownies £1.50 and Fun Club (25p entrance 50p sweets money) and thats it. I refuse to pay £5 for Dancing or Taekwondo (sp?). My kids can swim so they don't need swimming classes.

Blooming shedloads, but I seem to be the only one with teens/older kids to reply yet:rotfl:

    Hmmm:

    DD1 (15yrs)
Swimming 1hr monday- £30 plus per term of 12 lessons

Tues- choir- nominally she geta a bursary for this and keeps it, but muggins shells out for the train pass to get her there!

    Wed piano/singing £11/30 mins

    Thus, choir as Tues.

Fri alternative weeks main study instrument lesson £30/hour.

Sat am, music- free but we take all 3. Sunday- variable amounts of singing.

    DS (12)

Monday choir as DD1, but I collect him so double the transport costs.

Tues Piano £11/30mins. Rugby free after school.

    Wed- choir

Thurs- again alt weeks music lesson £30

    Fri choir

    Sat/Sun as DD1

    DD2 (9)

Swimming Mon- cheaper than DD1 as 30mins. Can't remember exactly.

    Tues Choir

    Wed Piano

Thurs +Fri Childminder (does that count).

    Weekends as the other 2!

We have tried most things over time- ballet was £££ and hillarious- the amout of kit you "needed" was silly and they were only gallumphing like pink hippos!
I haven't even dare to factor in instrument costs- as they get better not only do they need good teachers but also better instruments- DS needs a good french horn soon:eek: . DS also proposes to play more sport when he leaves choir at Xmas (his voice has broken)......

Overall it is worth it- they enjoy their music/sport and are actually pretty good at it too- DD1 is heading for grade 8 in all 3 of her prinicpal studies, but how she fits those in around GCSEs I don't know- one at a time and no pressure I keep telling her! (She may never manage grade 8 piano due to having teeny hands though! )

Under £10 for one five year old although I think if I added in all the uniform etc it would end up over £10, I'm expecting my second and not sure will be able to afford for both to do all activities.

Swimming Club is £40 a term
Rainbows £1.50 (plus insurance, census & Uniform)
Dancing £3.00 (plus uniform and exam fees)
    MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £58774
