selling your stuff on Amazon...part 2

Morning I have so many books and also use the library so don't want to swap any books at the moment but will look into that in the future.Just wondering if its worth selling the books for so little is it anything is better than nothing?Which is true. Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

Well I've had my first bad feedback this morning. Somebody left me 1/5 and said the cd was unplayable and the case cracked. This was a cd that was in perfect condition when it left me and had only ever been played once.
Was packaged securely as well so am quite surprised.
It's knocked my feedback rating down from 100% to 86%.
It's a blow to my confidence I must say. What should I do? Do I email the seller and say I'm dissapointed he didnt contact me prior to leaving feedback and state that it left me intact (which it did) or do I put this down to experience and move on?
Do I leave buyer feedback? Do I refund? Buyer hasn't asked for one and if I do this is itr fair to expect the item back so I can check the damage?
Sorry lots of questions but this has upset me this morning.

That's tough to take - I'd email the buyer because there may be a situation where he has left feedback for the wrong sale - it's happened to others before. If this is the case I'm sure that they will want to put it right (Larmy had a situation like this).
If they really did intend this feedback for you I'd would email to say that you are disapointed that you weren't contacted first (did you email them after the sale? that way they can find a way back to you quickly) perhaps you can negociate a refund and then maybe they will want to change the feedback.0 -
I've gone ahead and done what you suggested AT. Had some really good sales this week and this has just dented my confidence.
Part of me wonders if this was left in errror and part of me wonders if it somebody trying to pull a fast one on a newbie.
Just have to wait and see.

Poor you Smartcat {cyber hug}. Yes I know how you feel completely. Luckily the people who complained did not leave negative feedback (yet!), but they said a to me (like new) book, stunk so much of damp and mould that they had to rewrap it as it stunk their entire room out! They returned the book and it was still like new! I was shocked and like you lost my confidence. This was followed by a neutral which tipped me over the edge and I sent the buyer a snotty (v. immature email) which I do not recommend, however we ended up "friends" and he still e mails me now and again to see how I am.
I don't know what you can do. However if you look at other sellers feedback you will see even lowish ratings do not put people off if the price is right!!!!!
I am back selling now but I dont think I will ever really forget how confused and upset I was at the time.
I had started to include a note with my sales about how they should contact me if they were not happy before leaving negative feedback etc. I wish I hadn't bothered! Now I just send the book, keep schtum about feedback and keep my fingers and toes crossed it does not happen at least for a long time!
PS there is something in Amazon about negative feedback and how you should just take it on the chin and use it as an opportunity to look at your sales process (not easy in these kind of cases I admit) :mad:Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Think I may be about to have my first "no show swapsie", its been a week now so we'll have to see!!! Hope it turns up tomorrow morning cos I don't want any knocks right now.
I have had a couple of good sales this week and a potential swapsie worth around £19 in the pipeline (fingers crossed this one turns up). OH has lost the plot a little...keeps buying books about feeding children (is he giving me a hint or something?!) and HEAVY books that are worthless!!!!!!
I have STILL to get to the bottom of my MEGA BIG box of free books (the man is giving away a mattress now on freecycle...I'll take his books but I really draw the line at his mattress!!!! Ewwwww!!!)
ps. mike55 we all really miss you...get your !!!!!! back on here pronto!!!!!!!Laughing at my ancient signature...voodoobaby now 10 years old:eek:0 -
Voodoozoe, your hub may not be as daft as you think!!! Books on feeding toddlers sell really well - I sold three, but they were not the Annabel Karmel ones - there are just too many of them. Keep an eye out for them.
PS Meant to press the quote button - but I second the Mike comment.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

I am very new to this so please be patient. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone on this thread and a particular THANK YOU to Apprentice Tycoon. After reading the original post about selling on Amazon during the Xmas holidays I have sold over £500 worth of stuff from my own CD, DVD and book shelves. (I should explain that I found the thread via Debt-free wannabee - I've been a spendaholic for some time so have lots of stuff). You guys are so good at what you do and so generous with your advice - I wouldn't be able to pay this month's credit card bills without you! Also, I do work in the publishing industry so if some of the weirdness you encounter re: isbns, editions etc doesn't make sense I might be able to offer some guidance.0

Welcome to the thread
I think a lot of us echo your sentiment with regard to Apprentice Tycoon. As far as I can see, she never got Post of the Month - a travesty. This was post of the year as far as I'm concerned!
Like you, a few years ago when I was footloose and fancy free in the days before kids and mortgage etc, I used to actually have some sort of disposable income which invariably got spent on cds, dvds and books. Until I stumbled on this thread in October last year, our shelves were bursting with stuff I no longer listened to or wanted. I've made a tidy sum getting rid, and I've still got loads to sell yet! Very happy.
Changing the subject and going back to my previous post about readitswapit, I would say my username there, but it's a combination of my initials and surname (very unimaginitive I know) so I'm a bit reluctant to divulgeon an "anonymous" forum - it starts with ma and another six letters after that if that helps any!! I'll see if I can get it changed to my mse name.
With regard to Mike, he's been offline since 9 January - a whole week!! - when he last posted on here, so perhaps he's gone on hols, or maybe been unwell - so it's not just us amazonians that he's been avoiding. Hope all is well and he'll be back on here soon0
