O2 Pay Up Front For Life (merged)

Does anyone else remember this deal?

It was on for about a month a few years ago.

Pay £200 and get a Nokia 3310 with a choice of the following per month, for life:
50 anytime minutes
200 off peak minutes
50 texts or
A mix of texts and minutes (20 texts and 100 off peak mins I think)

Minutes were to o2 or landlines only, but stil a bit of a bargain.

I've still got mine (50 mins anytime) in case of emergencies, although I don't get a bill anymore - I think o2 have forgotten about it! Still works though.
My mum still uses hers (200 mins off-peak) regularly.

Only down side is that the minutes don't roll-over, and you can't upgrade the handset.

you can still buy a handset off classifieds or ebay, or get one of the regular "no line rental through cashback" offers. you'll probably find though in future if you want to do stuff like use wap, or picture messaging, your sim won't support it and they won't let you upgrade it without changing tariff. this is what has happened to my OH, he has the genie £10 for life line rental (500 offpeak mins, 500 texts free). bit of a bummer i can't send him pix, but he's not gonna give that one up!

I bought a second hand Nokia 8910 off eBay a couple of years back. It broke so I claimed on the insurance and got a brand new Nokia 8910i as they didn't make the 8910's anymore. RRP for the 8910i at that time was about £600!
I wish I'd sold it when I got it now - never renewed my insurance and that one died too.
The sim's now back in the 3310, and sits in a drawer (next to the broken 8910i) in case of emergencies.

I'm on a 12 months free line rental contract at the moment.
I just thought someone else on these boards might still have the PUFL deal. We could start an owners club...

I'll be in the gang :santa2:

Still using mine, think its only 25mins a month free but don't use phone much so generally get a bill for £1 or £2 each month.

Swapped the sim into a Nokia 6100 that I got off a mate for £20 when he upgraded.

Very good value, must have had it about 3 years now I think. Still paranoid they will decide at some point that the "life" is up.

Still got mine too on 200 minutes off peak. both my student sons are on o2 so it saves me a fortune, the chargeable calls have increased by quite a bit recently, but I rarely use anything I have to pay for on this phone, I got a Nokia 6100 from my son when he upgraded. I do not think they can stop the deal because they promised it you for life, I still have the letter somewhere from when it started.

Still got mine. I never had the 3310. I bought the sim only for £45 on 50 anytime mins a month.

I had a dispute with them about it a year ago and when they settled it they gave me itemised billing for free.

I just use it for 0870/0845 numbers from home now.

I'm in the PUFL club too. Started a thread here a few months back and got some useful info from helpful mse's, but my inertia means the sim is still in the Nokia 3310. Maybe I'll treat myself to something better for Christmas

Wow! More than I expected. I should start charging membership ;)
Yeah, from reading that link you posted fatbelly - I remember being told it was only possible to change between the different tariffs once, although I'm sure the salesperson in the shop (DX Communications - shows how long ago it was!) said you could change it an unlimited number of times. But then he would, wouldn't he...

When I used it as my regular mobile, I managed to get a text bolt-on, even though I was later told that bolt-ons weren't possible on the PUFL contract!
When my bill got to be >£10/month I started looking at contract phones, as they work out cheaper with cashback deals nowadays.

the beauty about pufl 50 is its one of the very few tariffs that allows calls on 0870 / 0844 / 0845 to come out of its inclusive mins, albeit 50 but comes handy.
just started using it recently, the sim was idle for the past two years, as it was not xnet so that didnt help.
it almost makes life worth living

How do you go about getting this? I asked about it quite a while back, but was told by o2 that I would need to change the contract. I've tried visiting the "view my bill" area of the site, but whenever I click on the option it just repeats the page that's being viewed, or says "unable to display this page". I've whacked off an enquiry to CS, but if you know how...
