  • Took it out in 2003 and repaid it in 2005. Went straight to FirstPlus. FOS said they were not covered by them in 2003.

Why are the FOS doing this with Firstplus...

Ring them back again and ask them if they were members of the GISC. I had this trouble and had an email to state to me that Firstplus were members of the GISC in november, 2001. I will find the actual email and post it up.

Please would you ring them again and then get back to us asap... Ask them if they GISC members and then from what date and why they tried to FOB YOU OFF...

Great news for you Alibear... :j .

Thanks, Marshallka. I called a few times as I never received a letter after four weeks informing me of their progress. They kept saying they'd call me back but never did, so I called again this morning to ask why they weren't doing what they say they'd do. A very apologetic lady said she'd get the person handling my case to call me back this afternoon, which she just did, to inform me of their decision! Persistence pays, people!

The FOS seems to be making a few mistakes about who they can look into or is it us?

Call them again Carrie and query this and mention what Marshallka said.

I am so fed up of the FOS doing this to people.. its like they are on the side of Firstplus now to me... here is my email from the FOS about when I was trying to find this out:mad:

God this has made me so angry.....

This is a copy of the email i received from them ages ago...

    Thank you for your email.

From the information you have provided, it would appear that we cannot deal with your complaint because the business is not covered.

Having looked at the information you have supplied to me, it appears that your complaint against Firstplus Financial Group relates to events which occurred when it was not a member ofthe General Insurance Standards Council (GISC).

On the 14 January 2005, as a result of recent legislation, the Financial Ombudsman Service became responsible for looking into complaints against former members of GISC about events that occurred while the firm was a member of GISC.

I should explain that the firm was a member of GISC from 20 November 2001. I note the policy was sold to you in January 2000. The complaint therefore appears to outside our jurisdiction.
  • Surprise Surprise!! they do cover them and have sent me out an information pack! Have no idea what my chances are though :( Thanks guys x

So blummin glad for you Carrie Cee. I know they are sending people away saying they do not cover them and then this. Its worth another complaint perhaps...;) .

You will have a long wait but might be well worth it in the end. I think out of £10K the pittance they have offered is nothing...
