    HI!
Was wondering if anyone could help with this:
OH took an overdraft in 1999 to which payment protection was added, he did not authorise this as he was medically exempt anyway, then in 2004 I became a joint account holder, apparantly the single PPI was cancelled and a joint application made, I did not sign for this and would not have needed it as I was unemployed at the time. We only found out that we were paying for this in August this year when we tried to close the account. We complained immediately and have just received our final response from Barclays saying that they will give a refund from when I joined the account but not prior to that as it falls out of the timescale allowed for complaints, they also said that it was an unreasonable length of time after the product was sold to the time that we cancelled it. The guy that we have been dealing with was awful,it has felt as though we were under investigation for fraud or something, calling us up to four times a day asking the same questions over and over again. I have been so upset by the way Barclays have dealt with this that I am tempted to just take the money they have offered as we are desperate for the money and I know it will take ages if we go to the FO. I rang the FO to see if we had a chance of reclaiming the rest either up to the last six years or back to 1999 but she said she couldn't advise. If we accept the offer it is full and final. What would anyone else do? xx

I'm a little confused as to how can you have ppi on an overdraft? Normally its just interest you pay for using the overdraft.

I personnally would not accept the refund, however if you need the money its really upto you. If they can offer a refund they must believe they have done something wrong.

I would point out to Barclays that you have only just become aware of the problem therefore the timescales begins when you notice there was a problem. I would also point out that you do not believe you have been treated fairly because of there attitude and stress they have caused you.

    Hi there
Sorry to hear of your ordeal here.

I am not too certain here but maybe they can only go back as far as 6 years, but still worth looking into.
Hopefully someone will have some answers here for you.

Ask them as well for a written breakdown in how they calculated this,on what they offered back, just to make sure they give back the correct amount - with interest.;)
They should supply this for you if you request this, good luck and hopefully someone else will be able to provide some answers here for you also.

    thanks di
as i have previously said with our financial difficulties were behind on the existing loan, to which were in court on the 3rd dec for repossession. they did the paperwork for this. i think the problem with blackhorse is there all in house. sales = insurance= legal. so all contact is monitored from each department to abuse the system. i have applyed for a ajournment, until they resolve this complaint, waiting to here back from courts. not much to look forward to at the moment, but im not going down without a fight. thanks for the advise , im getting all paperwork ready to phone FOS

No problem and good on you.
You know what your doing and keep it up.;)

Barclays offer payment protection insurance to cover your overdraft if you are unable to work etc. We were not aware of it either until August this year. It was at a cost of £8 per month but the way it appeared on the statement it looked as though it was a charge for having the overdraft.
You cant have everything; where would you put it? ;)
