Hi, this is the OS Daily thread for Wed 29th October, 2008. It is an 'over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start does just as well.
Morning All
Well apart from being the land of the sun, it is this morning the land of the wind, which has woken me up. Unusually this morning it is blowing from the sea. Never seen as many waves and "white horses" on the Med as we have this year. Odd spells of thunderstorms (it never rains gently here:o ) mainly at night, and quite a bit of cloud, but the temperatures have held up not too bad. Next few days threatening to be down to 14C the lowest we have seen up to now has been 17C and had some 25C, so I must not grumble.
Most of the OSing done has been in the form of meal preparation, made a fish pie on Monday, white fish, prawns, red and yellow peppers, mushroom, some sweetcorn left in a tin, and cheese sauce topped with mashed potato and a little more cheese. DC said she enjoyed it, but took that as politeness, but later when we had some neighbours round as a little farewell get together for her, she was telling folks how tasty it was, and normally she had found fish pies bland. :T :j  :T :j well to explain for the newbies - cooking is not my specialist subject, can do it, don't really get that much enjoyment from it, but it usually turns out OK, but rarely get compliments, but had one from DH too recently for a Lasagne:rolleyes: . Always read the recipes here, but usually just throw in what I think. Two portions left in the freezer for me (DH not a fish fan) so defrosted him a cottage pie portion which had been left from the week before.
Need to get the washing done and out if the wind calms a little and it stays dry, and will have a "fly" through, with DH's help of course.;)
I rang up about some physio for my knee, which I had been written up for but was holding off as it started almost behaving, and went for the first treatment yesterday, she said it was the tendon, and after twisting it in all directions, put a couple of electrodes on and gave it some sort of electric stimulous treatment, it has helped already, and I go back at 8.30am our time for the second lot. They had written me up for 20 treatments.
Tomorrow out Dutch neighbours have invited us to join them at a Dutch Restaurant here that does live music, 12 € for a 3 course candlelit dinner and dancing, romantic eh!
Jackie0 - WONDERFUL NEWS:T :A  :j :j
Snowy (Dylan), LW, Smoky, WS and all others who'd like one :grouphug:
:bdaycake: belatedly for yesterday and anyone celebrating today
:hello: newbies
 old hands
Have a good one, take care - DG
Edited to sa6 - good news for you too BETHABEE

Morning all,
Didn't manage to get on here y/day, I spent most of the day finishing enptying the study and have stripped the paper off and preped the walls. We had new windows and dble french doors fitted a while back and need to plaster parts of 2 walls which I will do today. I enjoy plastering, like icing a vertical cake.
Must order wallpaper today
Have a beef cass in the slow cooker and wm on.
I had some great news y/day. DB2, who has Melanoma had a call from the hosp, re his latest tests. They have said he is in remission. :j :j :j We both cried with relief. He has to go in for an Op on 1 of the 3dozen growths on Nov 19th. He is coming to stay the w/end before so will be able to give lots of support and hugs.
DB1 who has Prostate Cancer had his results and his blood count has not risen.
Just thought I would keep all of you, who have been so supportive, an update.
Off to catch up on y/days thread. Have a good day all.0 -

Morning. Day off for me, so I am having a lazy start to the day and not doing anything in a hurry. Everyone is off today too. Schools out and the older kids have the day off from their work (Eden project and Mc D's), so we will have American pancakes for breakfast, with real American maple syrup.:D
I have a friend in the US Navy based nearby, so they can get anything in their little shop, Root beer too).
Going to the RAF careers office today so that my son can see what options are avilable for him if he choses that as a career. First got to balance the finances and clean out the hen house.
It's cold and wet here, so the heating has been burning up my oil...

Morning all
Welcome to KLA, Mishmash & Canidothis, the fumble pie sounds yummy.
Good news BB.
Today I was supposed to be meeting a friend for lunch, but she phoned last night & moved it to tomorrow. So plans for today include a trip to Tesco for all my dry goods, should be about £100 & should take us up til Christmas, I went to the butchers yesterday & spent £39.27, hopefully that will also last us up til Christmas.
Washing is on the line, as it is sunny already, tho very cold, I shall also crochet a few more squares for blanket no.3.
Hugs to Candy, Jay, Smokey & anyone else in need.
I hope the tree gets sorted soon Glad.
Have a good day.
Hugs Hester

Morning all - great news Bethebee
couldn't get on here at all yesterday evening. Charity shopping went well - two tops for work, a nice velvet jacket and a couple of dvds for dgs's christmas box. dd(19) not at all well so I've got dgs(3) again. She was sick for seven months with him so I bought some stem ginger yesterday and will make her some nice ginger biscuits to see if that will help with the nausea. We are off to Thorpe Park today with many thanks to a fellow oldstyler for the voucher
Lunch will be whatever I can scrabble together for a picnic and tea will be Tuna Mexicana - that's posh for Tuna and bean casserole thingy btwI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -

Off to make soup for lunch and start the plastering. Oh! must get down to PO as I sent a parcel to my DM first class last Thurs and she still hasn't received it. Don't know if I can claim for it being lost.0 -
Good morning everyone.
Beth - what fantastic news! I'm so pleased for you all.
Welcome to Kla, Mishmash and Canidothis - have fun on here with us and save lots of money, too!
MSD - hope you're feeling less sore today.
Well, late on here because DH was just about to leave and found he has a flat tyre. He needs to get his current work finished today because he starts another lot tomorrow so he's had to take my car and arrange for someone else to pick all his heavy tools up. He'll be working near a tyre place tomorrow and it's more local so he'll have time to take the flat off and replace it with the spare in the morning, then drop the flat off for repair while he's working. I can do without my car today but will need it tomorrow so hopefully it will all work out.
WM and BM are on, as is the Remoska with a bread-and-butter pudding in it. It turns out really well cooked that way. Dinner is HM steak pie with chips and gravy - one of our favourites and an easy meal to prepare.
I'm changing the sheets today and giving upstairs a good clean. The weather is beautiful here at the moment. Very cold but bright and sunny - I love days like this. Hopefully, the sheets will dry on the line.
I have some paperwork to do; I need to make sure I'm up to date with it when I start my two weeks work at my old job because my ex-boss was hinting about having to replace a nurse who is leaving and I think he may ask me to go back. I don't really want to because the job really stressed me out once the NHS had changed the contracts, and that's why I left, but I'd be mad to turn down the offer of a job in the current climate when so many people are losing jobs. If he doesn't ask me, I shall look for a job because I'm worried that DH's work may start tailing off. At the moment he's busy but no-on can depend on that continuing nowadays, can they, and my work from home doesn't earn enough to keep us.
Anyway, off to start on the bedrooms. Hope everyone has a great day.
