CrazyNerd - welcome. I am not much use at the Old Style as I aspire more than practice, but they are so lovely here, it is wonderful. If you would like another gadget may I strongly recommend a Remoska. I have my potatoes baking in them as we speak. Stir fry to go with them.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0

Hi Guys!
Back safe and sound:D Had a lovely time away and was very lucky with the weather. Although it was very cold, the sun shone most days so it was quite pleasant. Very pleased as we came back with £80, so we are putting that in the tin towards our next few days away over Xmas:j :j :j :j ...so only £80 to find then its all paid up;) We ate at the Chalet most days and cooked for our friends too, so that kept the cost down. Found a place on the seafront doing fresh coffee and tea at 40p for a cup and saucer. You could also have a soup, roll, butter and tea for 99p or a toasted teacake. Had the best ever carvery (sp) on site for 2 for £10 and it was all freshly cooked and beautiful.
We had such a peaceful time and I loved every minute of it. Only needed 2 shots of morphine and slept really well there.
Have done 3 washloads today and still have another 2-3 to catch up on:eek:   ...shopping came and wasnt very happy with Asda, so have sent them an email complaining about the prices that I have been charged and a couple of other problems.
Havent read through the threads, so hope all is OK.
DD has gone out with friends this evening. Its still weird saying that. I was never allowed out at that age but I trust DD and her friends really do look out for each other ad they are being dropped and collected.
Anyway, I am feeling very tired and might get another load on this evening and put in the TD:o
Hugs and kisses to all.

Hello everyone.
I haven't been around for aages and there are lots of new faces on here. :hello:
It is nice to see that the thread is more old style than it had become but I do hope that no one has been put off posting. It's good to see it's still a friendly place.
Today I got 3 loads of washing dried, made a loaf, leek and potato soup. All the bedding was washed so that needs to be ironed this evening. *sigh*
I plan on doing some mending while watching TV this evening.
I have been very busy recently. We have done alot of decorating as we are unable to move house in this financial climate. I am also a little upset with our neighbours although I know the problem is none of my business but..... My hubby works all hours and we are very frugal and yet we still struggle to keep our heads above water yet they are back from another holiday are forever buying new kitchen equipment and furniture and are now planning renovations on their home. All this is done while neither of them work.
Sorry for going off topic but my hubby has just come home so tired after another long day and I so wish I could treat him somehow.
See you all soon

Evening folks,
Snow here to-day, not much but its October FGS! Then we had lots of icy rain, which meant that when we went to Maynooth for DD4's graduation we got drenched going from car to Aula Max and didn't warm up until we had a meal out just a while ago...I worry about Ulick getting cold, but while he will wear warm socks and some kind of hat ( quite a variety!) I cannot persuade him to wear gloves, even though his hands are white and ice-cold most of the time.
Still knitting to get the Christmas prezzies finished but several people have been inconsiderate to produce babies or to be about to do so, that is limiting the time I can spend on Christmas stuff! Must sort and wrap what I have as I think I may be nearer to being finished than I thought...found another few bits the other day which will swell the total
Hugs to all who are in need or want, welcome to newbies, congratulations to those who are celebrating, thank you for being my friends.

Evening all :hello:
stefejb - oooh I missed that your DD was pg again. Congratulations to her, and I hope the sickness doesn't go on too long.
((((hugs)))) to your LO, smokybabe - I hope the chickenpox isn't too bad - it really does vary. Me and my sis had it dreadfully badly, but my brother (who wasn't born yet when we had it) was barely under the weather and only missed a couple of days of school.
Glad you had a good holiday Penny-Pincher!!
I must just recommend the wine I am currently drinking. It's Waitrose Cuvee Pecheur (their cheapie French white - £3.69 a bottle). I've recommended its partner red, Cuvee Chasseur, on here before, which is cheaper still (£3.29). Yummy wine, and cheap enough so I don't feel guilty about using it for cooking as well as drinking.
By the way, is anybody doing a really good deal on good-quality dishwasher tablets at the moment? I'm running really low and have already wiped out this month's budget for cleaning products. I have access to all the major supermarkets.
I am hugely busy for the next couple of weeks. It crept up on me without me noticing. This week has been nice and quiet so far (three consecutive nights at home!) but then I looked in my diary and thought  I'm out tomorrow, Saturday, Sunday, every night next week except Tuesday, then Monday to Wednesday the week after thatLuckily I have done quite a bit of batch cooking over the last week or two, so that will tide me over until I have time to do day-by-day cooking from scratch again. It will be a challenge to stay on budget, but I think it will be OK because if I'm never home I'll be spending next to nothing on groceries...
Now, I'm off. I didn't get round to finishing my 4 incomplete reviews last night, so need to knuckle down and finish them tonight - I am reheating leftovers for tea, and the TV isn't going on until the reviews are finished, as it was cooking and watching TV which stopped me getting them done yesterday! I would love to get them done tonight, so I don't have to think about them when I'm so busy with other things.
Love Rzl xx :wave:Operation Get in Shape

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all your kind welcomes
Its a bit blustery and wet outside, and I got miserably cold popping into MrMs tonight. Ive never been very good at bargain hunting (need to change that) but was chuffed to pick up a reduced loaf at 29p, used a couple of slices as garlic bread and popped the rest in the freezer. I tried a soup in the SC last night, oh dear it was a complete failure, something in it didnt like to be cooked for so long and ended up bitter
We had HM pizza for tea, that didnt go quite to plan either - a bit soggy in the middle!
I was thinking...has anyone spotted someone in the supermarket and thought 'I wonder if they are an OSer?' I was stood behind this chap tonight who had 5 ready meals in his basket - OSer?maybe not, unless he was having a week off.

Hi BargainRzl-I usually buy Finish or similar but OH picked up some Tesco Value ones (30 for £1.30) and they are very good. They dont have a strong odour and leaves glasses/cups etc strak free. I generally buy DW product from Makro in bulk when they have their offers...usually Finish/Fairy 180 washes for around £14.00 inc VAT.

Evening,
not posted the past couple of days as barely no OSing going on! Been at placement all day & coming home & crashing straight into bed with exhaustion/thumping head. However, feeling much more with it at the moment J Took HM carrot soup & a cheese & tomato sandwich for lunch though (rather than succumbing to the Mr T round the corner from the office…). This weekend I must do a bit of baking ready for the kids going back to school next week, so they can take some munchies with them (and me too!).
Done a quick skim through of the past couple of days but can’t remember very much....
Diva, poor you, how horrible. Hope you feel better soon (((hugs))) I would prescribe more cheesecake.
Betheebee, at last some positive news about your DB’s, I am so glad for you J
JackieO, great news from you too J
AnnieBL – it was me who posted my “concotion” for Rocky Road (I wouldn’t call it a recipe as it consisted of a dollop of this & a dollop of that, lol). My DD’s love it too – a batch disappears in minutes!!!! Happy Birthday to your DS too.
Kaat/Mioliere – redruby has gone away for the week (can’t remember where she said though…) Edit: you’ve remembered J
Noah’sPMummy – Rocky Road…. In a saucepan slowly melt together a couple of large tablespoons of cooking marg (6oz???) (I use tesco’s value soft spread), a couple of equally large dollops of syrup and a couple of large spoonfuls of cocoa powder. You probably want fractionally more syrup rather than marg. While they’re melting (and you need to stir occasionally), crush about ¾ of a pack digestives in a plastic bag, so you have a mix of crumbs/larger bits. To mine I also add a small handful of slightly squashed hazelnuts & a small handful of raisins. Mix biscuit, nuts & raisins into the melted chocolate mixture. Once well stirred together add (if you want) marshmallows. If they’re the big ones, you might have to cut into smaller pieces first & they’ll probably melt down a bit. Then put all this mixture into a tin (line it with clingfilm, makes it easier to get out) and chill in fridge until set. If you want you can top it with some melted chocolate, or just icing sugar.
WARNING: it is very very very moreish… lol (see AnnieBooklover’s post!!)
Welcome to all the newbies and belated birthday greetings to anyone I’ve missed over the past couple of days. And also (((((hugs))))) for all needing them.Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)0 -
I have booked the evil cat in with the vets, Sunday morning. Her tummy is VERY noisy and the level in her water dish is going down quicker than normal. There is a strong chance that the vet will find nothing wrong, but they have to catch her first! She is such a monster. I don't know, she just doesn't look 'right' if you understand me. I wish I could put my finger on it.
Dear heart has been going to this vets, at first when he accompanied his father, when he first got a dog at the age of six. So he has been going to the same practice for over thirty years. I hope we will get the 'young' vet, who was young when he first arrived there but now is approaching retirement. Last time he had to deal with evil cat he just pinned her down without hesitation. He is lovely - he cuddled her as he examined her and she has a lovely loud purr. If we get the young lady vet, who is genuinely younger and, I think, German, then last time evil cat led her a merry chase all over the previously immaculate examination room, and the vet called her, 'a little bit hissy, a little bit scratchy' but was so gentle and nice to evil cat.
Our insurance may not cover her if she has a previous condition, so I shall have to be quite careful with the pennies. She has had a urinary infection before. It was desperately embarrassing. We had to have her sedated because as soon as she realised that we wanted her to spend a penny she absolutely refused and kept her paws crossed for three days. I have also noticed that she will not use the litter tray if I am in the kitchen, presumably because there is no lock on the door. The litter tray is technically in the kitchen, but underneath the stairs away from the kitchen with a partition wall between its unpleasantness and any food.
Tonight we had a very pleasant stir fry with baked potatoes and home made bread.
Tomorrow I am going to purchase dye, probably from ebay. They do sell bags of salt to use with dye, but am I correct in assuming that any common salt would do?Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0
