Hi I_A - another serial lurker on your diary (all 3 or is it 4 of them:rotfl: )

For someone as young as you are, you've been through a HELL of a lot! It's fantastic that you've actually had some good news for a change!!!

It's great that you've had this happen before christmas - what a brilliant way to start 2009 aswell!!!! I do agree with other posters though...keep some back in a savings account - my Dad has always said that if you've got a bit of money saved you probably won't have to use it, but if you've got nothing...you can bet your life that you'll need some & end up borrowing!!

Wish you all the best for the future I_A - you deserve to relax a bit!!

  • :T It's about time you had some good luck, really pleased for you.
I would treat the girls & get yourself a christmas present and then save the rest!
can you now wish some good luck on me, i've had nothing but bad luck since i came back from my holidays?

Not to be a total downer, but didn't that repayment come from a time when you and Ste were together, in which case since you've now split up, shouldn't you give him some of the repayment.

Maybe I'm wrong here, but did he not take some of the debt with him? Surely he should get to pay some of that off too.

    Finally Debt Free...
  • I'M DEBT FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Had the shock of my life this morning when a random deposit from tax credits went into my bank... called them up and checked, expecting a clerical error.. but no.. it's all legit and I'm entitled to it thanks to child tax credit...

    amount?..... wait for it....
    £1713!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :eek::eek:

I nearly died!!! Could not believe it and was in total shock. Got off the phone from tax credits and was shaking like a leaf... apparently also all outstanding overpayments have been wiped too! I just.. I'm still trying to get it to sink in!

So the very first thing I did was pay off my egg card :D So as of this morning I am officially debt free :D

I owe Ste £96.69 for the council tax which went out before the housing/council tax benefit was sorted. I also called up the housing association and because of when the housing benefit went through there was £135.23 in rent arrears still outstanding so I've cleared those and am now on a clean slate :) After all of that and the bills left to go out I've got £782 :D I just can't believe it. I've not decided what to do with it yet. Couldn't really get a decent car with that with tax mot etc so I'll probably treat the girls and save the rest.

I just..I... lol.. my god!!! What a morning!!!! *phew*

CONGRATULATIONS :j :D   So pleased for you, that must feel great!
  • You know, it's quite weird. It almost feels empty being debt free. I didn't struggle for it... I have been living frugally but that hasn't really contributed to this at all.... Is that wrong :undecided

You're not giving yourself enough credit Sarah, you did contribute A LOT to this :A Now give yourself a pat on the back and that's an order!

    Note to self

Must give up work and get the state to pay for my debts

Some people might be offended by that statement

Well done Sarah, it must feel great. I have to go with the very valid comments on here though - put £500 into a high interest savings account as a started fund towards your car and have some fun with the rest.

    Take care
