Great 'What to Buy in Pound Shops' Hunt. What should and shouldn't you grab?

Coathangers! Ten for a pound. Usually silly money in normal shops, but not really something you want to spend on. From the horrid grey colour, I imagine they are recycled.;)0

The 99p Stores sometimes have remarkable food bargains. I was a bit wary at first as some of the regular food products are clearly fairly cheap quality. However, I realised that there are often what must be warehouse clearance bargains. The first food I bought there was a Panettone which is usually £6-7. It was clearly genuine with months left on the 'Use before' date. There were piles of them one day but they went pretty quickly. Now I always peruse the food shelves and often find unusual items which would cost many times more normally.0

I go to 99p Stores and my favourite bargain is their packs of 10 jiffy bags in dvd size! They're great for my eBaying as they work out at only 10p each and they are self-sealing.
I've also found tubes of 30 glowsticks in there, the thin type you can make bracelets with, and you get about 5 different colours.0 -
I love £land and 99p stores, i worked at £1 when i was a school!:) they actually paid more than sainsburys!:)
I get the usual:
cleaning items
sweets
plastic food containers
Toiletries
specials etc
HOWEVER!
you have to be careful because somethings i can get BOGOFF in tesco etc or get own brands cheaper.0 -
Whenever there's something I need to buy I always check out the pound shops first. There are usually good deals on branded toiletries, often top names too.
My best buys recently have been garden shrubs, bulbs and seeds, also Revlon make up brushes.
Our newest pound shop opened last December, the Christmas decorations they were selling were fab, just as nice if not better than the ones sold in other stores for five times the price.0 -
havent gone right through the numbers ie folk telling of purchases but , strangely have not found any mention about a pack of serviettes, 100, measuring around 40x40 cm. must be near 4ply , which are more like tableclothes compared with the usual sizes. excellent quality for the small cost . go get em, dry the nippers when they come out of the bath!!!:T0

WARNING
I used the super glue, (6 in a pack) but as I squeezed, the glue was coming out of a seem, unknown to me and sticking to my thumb.0 -

I work near a 99p and Poundland and often drop in on my way home!
Apart from the usual cleaning/cosmetics/toiletries/gardening products I've managed to purchase some really fantastic one-offs - namely end-of-line and luquidation stock items!
About 6 months ago I purchased some lovely (very unusual ) glass light fittings and managed to find the entire set of cream curtains for the rental property we own - in fact I was on my way to the High Street to look for some when I chanced to pop into the 99p and bought about 10 sets in all!!! Would have actually chosen them elsewhere and paid lots more! Good quality cotton twill - much admired by all! ( My neighbour is still envious!!) Needless to say not available for long and gone the next day!
On another occasion purchased some paint for a fraction of the price in lovely shade and some glass bathroom shelves, again still going strong!
Fantastic value also on often otherwise difficult to get items. As someone already mentioned, best to pop in regularly - you never know what you might find!0
